I'D LIKE to say that I think the system in Jackson has really gotten bad. My husband and I got into an argument seven or eight months ago. Now they want to prosecute us. We didn't even call the police, because it was a stupid argument, The state took it over and wants to prosecute two people who have never been in trouble. Nobody hit anyone or anything. They just want to go after two innocent people. They tell you they're going to drop the case, and then they don't drop the case...

After the argument

No snow sculpture

MAYBE OUR snow doesn't have the right consistency, but somehow I'm disappointed that I haven't seen any creative snow sculpture in our neighborhood. Even an attempt at a Venus de Milo or a mutant caterpillar would be appreciated.

Let's pull together

I'VE BEEN reading with both amusement and disdain some of the comments from Democrats in Speak Out. I must respond to get even time. It seems to me that all the Democrats care about is their agenda, their beliefs, their policies. They don't care about our country. They just want the free handouts to keep going. They want us to take care of them. They don't want to work for it. All they care about is the party line. Let's pull together for the good of the country, not just for the good of the party.

Good Samaritans

ON MONDAY afternoon before the big snow I was on Mount Auburn Road ready to make a left turn to go to the bank when my car died and wouldn't start. A young man in a truck behind me got out to see what my problem was. He turned around and parked in front of me and used a jumper on my battery The car did start, but when he removed the cable it died again. A patrol car came up behind me, and the policeman got out to see what my trouble was. He and the young man pushed me out on the side road. When my car wouldn't start he suggested calling a tow truck. Just as he was calling one, a tow truck was passing by and came to help. I was towed to a garage and was told the alternator wasn't working. In about an hour my car was fixed and I was ready to go. I still had time to go to the bank and get to the Chateau in time for dinner. I took the tow bill the next day to my insurance company, and it wrote me a check that day. On Dec. 2 I went to a cousin's house, and her sister and brother-in-law picked us up to go out for lunch and groceries. When I left her house later on I backed out of the driveway and turned too soon and got stuck in a snowbank by her driveway. My car wouldn't go forward or backward. I tried shoveling the snow, but it didn't help. She called her brother-in-law, and he came back to help me. Well, the car wouldn't move. The front wheel just kept spinning. A man in a truck stopped to help us. He practically lifted the front of the car up, and my friend was able to back the car into the street. I was on my way. A friend at the Chateau helped me clean the ice and snow off my car. Later I helped a friend clean off her car. I'm a firm believer in prayer, and I thank the good Samaritans who came to my aid when I needed them. You know who you are.

Disrespectful reporting

I'M READING the Southeast Missourian, and I'm so tired of the disrespect this newspaper shows our former governor. I'm referring to the article written by Mark Bliss and Christopher Howard, "No more singing the blues." It says "U.S. Sen. John Ashcroft of Missouri lost his re-election to the dead governor last month." That is so disrespectful.
