Too many hands out

IF THERE is anything I despise, it is sending a donation to a charity and, by return mail, getting another plea for more money.

Dangers on the bridge

THE RECENT accident on the bridge was just a foreboding of what's going to happen if they keep it up. We have a serious problem of people passing on that bridge over the double yellow line. They seem to not understand that they are going to create a problem where someone is going to get killed or seriously injured. If they want to be road warriors, they need to do it somewhere else.

Democratic taxes

TO SET the record straight on "No new taxes," when George Bush went back on his word for no new taxes, who proposed the taxes in the first place? The Democrats, of course. After pleading and begging because they didn't have enough money to finance their programs, he gave up and signed their tax bill. It was a great mistake. Those very same people who pleaded and begged for the tax increase then used the "No new taxes" phrase to defeat him. Of course they said it was smart politics, but it only shows the trash in the Democratic Party. Bush took the blame, never mentioning who proposed the new taxes. It showed character, of which the Democrats have none.

Keep Electoral College

I CAN'T believe those who say get rid of the Electoral College and just use the popular vote. If you do that, you must get rid of two senators of each state. The Electoral College and having two senators let smaller states have a say. As this election shows, Bush won three-fourths of the counties in this country. Thank God for the Electoral College.

In the end, we lost

I HAVE been a lifelong Democrat. I voted for Al Gore. I just want to say that I was embarrassed by what happened down in Florida. We lost. There is such a thing as decency.

The Bush recession

THOUGH WE may not realize it yet, we have already entered the first phase of the Bush recession.

Ballots are sealed

THE DEMOCRATS are now telling us that one day we will truly know who was elected in Florida because someone is going to go in and count the votes. How do they know this to be true? It is my understanding that all ballots of an election at some point are sealed. They are not a matter of public record.

Viewpoints aren't law

SEEMS TO me that all the news media are probably law-school drop-outs. They'd like to interpret the law and make everyone believe they know what they talk about. In fact, they seem to act like they don't know anything at all except their political views.

Tired of gridlock

IT IS a good thing Gore didn't win the election. People were sick and tired of gridlock. Why didn't Clinton ask Gore to step down?

Duped by Saddam

I JUST heard on the TV news that the American people and people worldwide have been duped again by Saddam Hussein. He has said he plans to give $800 million to the Palestinians to help defend themselves.

The court did it

I THINK it is time for court-bashing Republicans to belly up to the bar and admit they were handed the presidency by the very type of court they proclaim to abhor the most, namely a radically activist, anti-states rights U.S. Supreme Court.
