Nothing to compare

TO THE person who responded that Republicans are not sore losers, citing John Ashcroft who lost to the deceased Gov. Mel Carnahan: Yes, Ashcroft was gracious in not appealing the decision and accepting the vote of the people. However, two things make that case very different. Ashcroft truly lost the popular vote, and he is smart enough to know that it would have been political suicide for him to contest the election, considering the fact that the governor had just died. He knows that in two years Jean Carnahan may not seek another term, and he will have another chance. To have done anything less than what he did would have been a big mistake. There is very little to compare about the two elections.

Police agenda

TO THE reader who suggested legalization of marijuana for medicinal use: There is a reason why there is such reluctance by the people to legalize any drug. The police use scare tactics to campaign against any drug legalization because it's the way the police promote their agenda. They fund the expansion of their agencies by telling us it's to fight the evil pot smokers who are going to addict our children. Pot smokers and other drug users are hurting no one but themselves. Prisons are full of people who have done nothing more than smoke dope. Who cares? Those people could be supporting families and paying taxes if they weren't being supported by our taxes in jail.

Mocking our values

YES, INDEED, the 10 Commandments are the basis for all law and conduct in all civilized nations. No civilized country condones murder, adultery, perjury or theft without penalties. But the Clinton-Gore administration not only condones but has committed perjury, adultery and attempted theft of our democracy and our Constitution. They have mocked our American traditional values and Constitution right from the very beginning of their administration.

The perfect crime

I READ in a recent article that the owner of the Taste Lounge had reported to police the theft of some cash from a cash register. Cape Girardeau police, however, did not pursue the case because they were unable to contact the suspect. That opens up avenues to me. I have always wanted to rob a liquor store, and now I see that I can do it and get away with it. It's always been the punishment phase of the whole ordeal that drove me away from actually robbing the store. Now after I get done with this very Speak Out call, I am going to have my phone disconnected, and then I am going to go out and rob a liquor store. When I get done, I am going to come back to my house and lock the doors. And when the cops come pounding on the doors, I won't answer. When they see that my phone is disconnected, they will realize that they can't contact me, and they will just give up on the case. In a few days I will be free to come outside and rob a couple more liquor stores.

Look to the future

ONE DAY people must revolt against liberalism and the anything-goes morals and values before America is lost to our children. Voting for promises and forgetting our children's futures or values has even worked its way into our seniors, I am sorry to say, some of whom also have forgotten their religious values for selfishness and greed.

Ruins their plan

WELL THERE is one sure thing. If Bush gets in, it is going to really ruin the Democratic Party's plan for the next four years. They would have Gore for four years and the next election they would run Hillary. Wouldn't that be just lovely for all of us?

Bow out gracefully

I AM 72, but I do know how to punch a hole to vote. I am very concerned about what is going on. I am a Republican and voted for Bush, and I wish this would end and we could again all be Americans. So please call it a day and quit like Senator Ashcroft. Bow out gracefully.

Let military vote

I FEEL sorry for our military. We want them to fight and protect our country, but we won't give them the right to vote. I don't think the Democrats have a right to change the laws of the nation.

Different pregnancy

ISN'T IT something that to a Democrat a pregnant chad is a vote, yet a pregnant woman does not have a life inside of her?
