IT IS unbelievable how the Republicans mess up everything from domestic to foreign relations. George W. Bush was able to get a fair and uninterrupted count in New Mexico and Oregon but is not letting the same happen in Florida because he knows that he did not win the election fairly. The ballot inserted in Palm Beach County was illegal and not the same one sent to the voters as an sample ballot. In Seminole Cty, Fla., Republicans filled in absentee ballots and are getting away with it so far. The Republicans are the ones who threw out most of the military ballots, even admitting to throwing out Jacksonville military ballots. The actual voting machine used in Palm Beach County was taken away by a Republican and not available to anyone else. The witness used by the Democrats with 24 years' experience checking voting machines was denied access to it even with a Republican present. If Jeb Bush were not governor of Florida, this would have been over a long time ago, and we would have the true winner, Al Gore.
I FIRST learned about the Electorial College in 1963 when I was in seventh grade. I thought it was a bad idea then, and I think it's a bad idea now. The Founding Fathers really blew that one big time. I pray that I will love long enough to see this travisty done away with and let the American public elect their own president. George W. Bush lied. He doesn't trust us. He trusts the members of the Electorial College.
I WAS calling into say I think the reason why the people don't want medical marijuana for the sick is because the tobacco companies and alcohol companies will lose money. They see there will be a harm to them, whereas a lot of people know that it will actually help people that are sick.
BEFORE THE election, the Bush boys predicted a landslide with 5 to 7 percent margin of victory. We all know what happened. Now we have the Bush forces trying to kill an honest and total recount. Bush deep in his heart knows that he really doesn't deserve the presidency.
HOW COULD they knock down the old St. Francis Hospital building without a vote? It is our money. The Marquette Hotel should come to a vote. The Taste Lounge trouble s not Michael Pryor's problem. I think he has done a good job. I think we need to vote for a new police department and a new city manager. And why do we need Al Spradling? Everything is costing us money. I think everything over $25,000 should come to a vote of the people of Cape. We don't need those people down there telling us what to do.
A RECENT caller to Speak Out said that if the presidential election had turned out the other way around, Bush would be fighting just as hard as Gore is now. But that is not true. As an example I cite U.S. Sen. John Ashcroft who lost a very close battle to the late Gov. Mel Carnahan. What did we Republicans do? We accepted our loss. Ashcroft conceded gracefully, and we moved on. So the shoe is on the other foot. Republicans are graceful. Democrats are sore losers.
BUSH MAY win, but he will never be the choice of the people or be a leader to trust. There will always be a doubt of did he win.
AS FAR as the vote count in Florida goes, don't you know this history in the making? This is your Constitution at work. Appreciate it for what it is.
