THE MOSQUITO sprayer from the city just came by my home. These trucks must go about 40 mph. What do they do it for? I am not surprised that we didn't get any of the fog at all. I have lived in cities where mosquito prevention was important. Cape Girardeau is not one of them.
I WANT to say the U.S. House voting to ban human cloning would be comparable to a church voting to ban human flight in the 1500s. How can one make criminal something which is not even possible yet? Maybe tomorrow Congress will ban time travel and other constants like that.
SOME ADVICE to the caller who thinks the government should govern the attire of women: Why don't you hop on a plane and fly to Afghanistan where you will find a great bunch of guys called the Taliban who can make all of your dreams come true.
I AM so sorry to read about the controversy concerning the First Assembly of God's new church. I am not a member of the church, but over the years I have been very impressed with its efforts for our community. The church opened a teen center and bought the old May Greene Elementary School to serve the people in that part of town. When my own church built a new addition and hosted an open house, First Assembly of God sent a beautiful flower arrangement with a lovely note of encouragement. I'm sure that the neighbors in the new location will find the church to be an excellent neighbor just as the church has been good for the whole city. I wish people would reconsider and support the church.
AFTER READING the terrible news about the professional football player dying from the heat, I read that some coach made the comment that some of the larger players where losing 20 pounds a day through these workouts. Those players did not lose pounds of fat or muscle. They lost 20 pounds of fluids.
IT MAKES me so sad that so many calling Speak Out are barely able to make ends meet. If I had to do it over again I would have married a police officer. Not only do they make a decent wage, but they get great benefits too. If they get killed, the benefits cover mortgages and bills. I guess I have to buy life insurance and work like everyone else.
IN ANSWER to "Must pay to play": My husband and I paid over $4,000 in income tax last year, and our letter definitely said no refund check. Can someone explain this to us?
I HAVE a letter dated July 27, 1999, from U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson saying there is going to be affordable insurance. In 1998 she said she voted for people to have affordable insurance. Well, it's not here. I've written time and time again to Emerson's office, what does she consider affordable? I have also written to U.S. Sen. Christopher Bond about affordable insurance. They never have told me what affordable insurance is. This Republican Party and Congress have no interest in seeing that 43 million people have health insurance. Ever since Bill Clinton took a beating on his health-care plan, which was a disaster, they have gotten more and more reluctant.
MY HUSBAND and I do not receive a tax rebate because we didn't pay any income tax. We do not feel we are deserving of one because we don't have not anything invested. However, we rejoice at those who did pay and are receiving a rebate. That is only fair. It should have been more. Hooray for the Republicans.
I WOULD appreciate if the city would cut the weeds on the corner of Olive Street and Big Bend Road. Somebody is going to get hurt if they do not cut these weeds so people can see before they pull out on Big Bend Road.
