MY HUSBAND had a heart attack about three weeks ago and has had surgery and a four-way bypass. It's been quite an ordeal. I've spent a lot of time at the hospital. He got out of the hospital five days ago. Two evenings ago I went to Schnucks to get some food, and because I'm so stressed lately, I left my billfold in the front part of the cart when I took my groceries out. ...

Thanks for billfold

MY HUSBAND had a heart attack about three weeks ago and has had surgery and a four-way bypass. It's been quite an ordeal. I've spent a lot of time at the hospital. He got out of the hospital five days ago. Two evenings ago I went to Schnucks to get some food, and because I'm so stressed lately, I left my billfold in the front part of the cart when I took my groceries out. I shoved the cart back into the cart return area and took my purchases home. When I got home, Schnucks called me and told me that one of the cart boys had found my billfold and turned it in. That's so nice of them. My billfold had money in it and my credit cards too. I feel very lucky that the employees were so nice and so honest. I just want to thank the Schnucks employees.

Thanks for decorations

THERE'S NO way to forget that the Easter bunny is coming when you pass the Boren residence on Sherwood Drive. Once again, they have jazzed up the neighborhood with Peter Rabbit and all his friends, plus a generous assortment of Easter eggs. It's a spectacular site, with dozens of rabbits all over the yard and colorful eggs hanging from the trees. Many hours went into creating this pre-Easter scene. Thanks from all the kids, young and old, who pass your way.

Thanks for the gas

I WANT to thank the gentleman who paid for my gas at Rhodes 101 March 25. You hear so much about the bad things that happen, but we don't often hear about the good things that people do. Thank you, sir, and God bless you for your act of kindness.

Don't buy communist

THERE ARE plenty of countries for the United States to trade with without trading with communist countries. For once, the United States needs to put democracy first and quit dealing with the enemy. Greed will gain nothing if communists are allowed to gain prominence. They will confiscate all the gains. So, America, get wise and use common sense and save our democracy from the international communist movement that is out to dominate and enslave the world.

Check the source

I WOULD like to comment to the person who took exception to baby doctors who do abortions and the judges that OK the abortions. Read chapter 21, verse 8 of Revelation and see what it says about murderers and sexual perverts. Then make up your mind. If your mind's open enough, you'll be able to understand what it says.

Curb young drivers

ABOUT THE article about senior citizens who give up their driver's licenses: I grant you there should be some who should not be driving, but I think you're missing the point. Look where the insurance rates are for younger people for the number of accidents. The legal driving age should be raised to 18, and you should have a high school diploma before you can get your driver's license. It's not the older people who drive 45 mph to 50 mph in the city.

Need more delivery

WHY DO eating establishments not have more delivery services? There are times we don't feel like getting dressed up or cleaned up to go out to eat.

Mount Auburn safety

I'M CALLING in regard to Mount Auburn Road. I think it was a big mistake by the city. I've heard complaints about people driving too fast. The real issue is about the safety of the pedestrians: joggers, bicyclists, walkers, but mostly the children who need to cross Mount Auburn to go to Clippard Elementary School. It's caused a real safety hazard for them. They can't safely ride their bicycles to school any more. It's a hazard to cross that street now. It may be the shortest way between Lexington and William, but it's still mostly residential, and the safety of the residents should come first. So the city should fix it right with bike lanes or sidewalks, or put it back to two lanes.

No comparison

A SPEAK Out caller says outdoor burning means bad air in Cape. You should ride out to County Road 634 in Cape by a pig farm. You think burning leaves smell bad? You need to smell what they're burning out there. It smells like chemicals.

Can't keep leaves

I'M CALLING to comment on the letter on outdoor burning in Cape Girardeau. Some of us don't have a way to get our leaves to the proper disposal area. We leave them in plastic bags piled up beside our homes, and we get letters from our neighbors or a visit from the city saying, "Clean up your area."

Scriptural guidance

I FEEL sorry for the person who said most scientists say homosexuality is determined at birth. You better base your faith on the Bible and not on scientists, because there are many Scriptures condemning homosexuals.

Don't give in

THIS CHINA fiasco is really about communism vs. democracy. President Bush will not bow down to communism. Our democracy and country are at stake. The United States must not sleep with the enemy. Appeasement is the worst nightmare. The U.S. cannot be bullied by thugs.

Aluminum power

SOMEBODY SHOULD tell Jo Ann Emerson that Noranda Aluminum will have a heck of a time finding a place to relocate. It was on TV the other day that an aluminum company in the northwest was having its electricity limited to such an extent that they will practically be out of business for at least the next two years. Until there's a new crop of electric generating plants, the aluminum industry will not be widely wanted because of the large amount of electricity they use per job created. This will make aluminum plants undesirable in areas where there is not a large excess of electric power, which is almost everywhere in the United States.
