I'D LIKE homeowners to drive down their street late at night and find out if they can see their house address. What if an emergency service couldn't find your home? Probably 95 percent of homes don't have reflective lettering for their addresses.
THOMAS PAINE said it best, in his pamphlet "Common Sense" when he wrote: "Of more worth is one honest man to society and in the sight of God than all the crowned ruffians that ever lived." President Bush is an honest man and of great worth to our nation and society and to the world. It's about time America had worthy men to lead our country.
IF I were George W. Bush, I'd bring all the troops and equipment home from the Middle East, and let these people raise the price of their oil. I'd also stop all the imports coming from China into this country. We already have a $50 billion trade deficit with China. Turn your ships around, China, and take your junk back home. We don't need it.
I KNOW our teachers spend some of their own money, but I could have sworn that at the beginning of the school year I was given a list of school supplies to get for my child. Some of the items on that list were crayons, Kleenex, wipes, soap, pencils, glue, markers, folders, backpack, notebook paper and scissors. I think it would be a good idea to audit the board office and see where our tax money is really going.
I BELIEVE God says in the Bible that nobody shall be turned away who wants to worship him. That's the problem with Christians today. All they care about is image and politics. No wonder nobody wants to go to church. You drive them away with your antics. We're supposed to reach out to people. Stop turning them away.
I FIND it hypocritical that David Limbaugh rails against Tom Daschle and the Democrats' divide-and-conquer tactics pertaining to the recently passed Senate tax cut. Limbaugh describes those who voted for the bill as "liberal senators, class warriors, paragons of fiscal restraint, Daschle-enabling Republican senators," and those constituents in favor of the legislation as "liberal elite constituents." Limbaugh is defining those who oppose his ideas. He polarizes people into those who believe him and those who don't, and then he will push his concepts politically to get them enacted. That is dividing and conquering, it seems to me. He and his brother are the prince and king of division and polarization. This is hypocrisy at its best.
I'M GETTING tired of hearing the Census Bureau getting bashed all the time. I worked for the Census Bureau. I was an enumerator. We didn't make all that much money. We were threatened. We had to visit crack houses. We had guns pulled on us in the western counties of this district. Our district was all the way from the Arkansas state line up to St. Francois County and west to just before Columbia. That is a huge territory. We did the best we could. Until you walk a mile in my moccasins, don't criticize us so much. We did everything we could do. If people won't cooperate, it doesn't work.
DMITRI BELL is screaming discrimination because the jurors saw a photograph of him with his numbers under his name? Excuse me? The man was caught with marijuana and crack in his car, and he's screaming about discrimination? If you do the crime, then you do the time.
THANKS SO much for printing the picture of the 18-month-old child participating in the Easter egg hunt. The photographer captured the innocence and wonderment of what childhood is really all about. What a joy of a picture.
I'D LIKE To say thank you to the honorable person who found my driver's license on County Road 635 and put it in my mailbox. Thank you very much.
TO WHOEVER planted the white flowering trees in downtown Chaffee in front of the hardware store: Thank you. They're beautiful.
I'VE DRIVEN on Mount Auburn Road every morning for years on my way to work, and there are always runners out there getting their morning exercise. Now the city has made Mount Auburn into a four-lane interstate, and it's dangerous. I request that the city put in a sidewalk for all the pedestrians.
I'M NOT sure that seventh- and eighth-graders need to be taught about us having a spy plane in China. This is a time when most parents are teaching kids to respect others and the privacy of others, while our country has a double standard of spying on another country. Do we tell our kids it's OK in war to conduct yourself like this? But home is a different thing, and neighborhoods?
TIGER WOODS, no doubt the best golfer ever, has accomplished so much at just the age of 24. It's too bad he wasn't taught to curb his temper. Such filthy language is disgraceful and degrading as a role model for our youth. He showed arrogance and obnoxious behavior the whole tournament. Watching TV, it sure took the shine off his apple at our house. Being famous, a celebrity doesn't have the right to act like a pig even though some think it's cute and the pressure makes him do it. It's being a spoiled, pampered brat, as so many sports figures are. They are overpaid and over-worshipped.
