TWO WEEKS ago I went to my mother's grave to put flowers on it. I saw that someone had stolen a basket of artificial flowers. This has upset me very much. I hope the person or persons who took the flower basket will return it to my mother's grave.
GET REAL, people. This is in regards to the wearing shorts to church. No, we don't see like God does. We worship God with people. The mechanic does not wear a three-piece suit to work. A sailor does not wear an Air Force uniform. To take a swim we don't use our ballroom attire. So please wear what is appropriate to church.
RECENTLY OUR coffee conversation turned to the Marquette Hotel. The point of most interest was what it would take before the city building inspectors would give the OK for occupancy. By the time the owner gets it passable for the first floor, she will have more than second thoughts.
I'M CALLING to address some members of my church. Our wonderful pastor is being scolded. I don't know any circumstances surrounding what has happened, but I do want to say that I have been a member of this church family for 10-plus years. I have watched attendance in church and Bible class rise. I've never known our pastor to be anything but a wonderful, loving and humble man. He is always the first to say when he makes a mistake. He is his own worst critic. But let's remember God's Word as it was preached when this church began over 125 years ago. It is still the same today. God commanded us to love one another, and he forgives us our trespasses as we are to forgive others. God also said, "Let the one who is without sin cast the first stone."
WHAT HAPPENED to Mount Auburn Road's 35-mph speed limit? Has it been changed to Mount Auburn Freeway?
IT'S A wonderful year. After 92 years of rebuilding their team, the Cubs are tied for second place.
RECENTLY I was made aware of the Jackson School District drill. If an armed intruder enters the school, all of the lights are turned off, all the doors are shut and finally all of the kids in a class are instructed to line up against the same wall and hope the intruder doesn't see them. I just wanted to say kudos to Jackson for having such an effective defensive measure.
IF YOU were to visit the president of the United States at the White House, what would you wear? If you were to visit the queen of England at Buckingham Palace, what would you wear? If you were to visit God in God's house, what would you wear?
I WISH people who keep calling and quoting Scripture would stop taking the quotes out of context. It makes me wonder if they've ever sat down and read through their Bibles or have just picked up some convenient feel-good quotes. I have no idea how God feels about the way I dress and act when I go to church. But I do know that how people dress and act tells me a great deal about how they feel about God and church. Anytime I've gone to a dinner or a banquet honoring someone, everyone is usually dressed up to show their respect for that person. It seems to me that God deserve as much respect.
BEFORE WE begin cloning new babies, we should take care of the babies that already exist.
TO THE parents who called in and said things are swept under the rug at Jackson schools and kids aren't allowed to talk about things that happen: That's not true. What we don't allow is kids to sit around and gossip. When we hear students talking about things they have no need to be talking about because it's class time, we ask them to hold their conversations on their own private time. Or we ask them if they want to see a counselor or an administrator. We don't want kids going around telling stuff that we know for a fact isn't right. That's exactly what happened in the recent case about the baby.
TERRORISTS CANNOT hurt this country. The politicians are doing a good job on their own.
I'M NOT opposed to mentally retarded criminals getting the death penalty. They know the difference between right and wrong. That retarded man was smart enough to load and reload a gun. He knowingly shot three people. He deserves the death penalty.
HEY, DEMOCRATS, let's get something done. Have George Bush's tax cut skewed even more in favor of the lower third of income earners and let it go through.
