YES, MY heart is swollen with pride, especially when I think of all the accomplishments of the Clinton administration. Republicans, you let us Democrats worry about the Clintons. You have more than enough to worry about in your own party.
SPEAKING OF trailer trash: Who is responsible for the cleanup of the terrible trashy conditions along the creek banks below Hanover Lutheran Church down to the Jaycee Municipal Golf Course? There is a mobile-home park that partially joins the creek. A drive to Gordonville from Cape Girardeau or to Highway 3 in Illinois also is terrible. How about sororities and fraternities whose members want to do good deeds volunteer to clean up these areas? It doesn't seem like anyone cares anymore.
KUDOS TO the Speak Out commentators who condemned Cape's school board for its apparent shameless appeasement of a vocal few by firing one of the best principals in Central high school history, Randie Fidler.
I AM elated to hear that what amounts to a Cape board of education coup, in effect overthrowing class act Central High School principal Randall Fidler, is being met with widespread community opposition. How absolutely refreshing. Fidler promoted and practiced solid middle-class values. Those who are rallying to his side are to be sincerely congratulated and complimented for their collective effort. This is an injustice of such magnitude it deserves to be more than nine days' news. In fact, it is a wrong that needs to be made right. I believe it will.
I ENJOYED reading your editorial about saving energy. The people in the Northeast were threatened with a surcharge for not conserving and using more fuel than in the previous year. In the current energy crisis, did you know that at least one local gas company charges a higher price for using less? My neighbor's usage was about 950 gallons last year, and his price was quoted at $1.38 per gallon. My usage of 650 gallons produced a quote of $1.42 per gallon. In a time of shortage, the energy companies of the Northeast have the right idea.
GEORGE W. Bush is anxious to improve education in this country, and we could start with his education. That man's grammar is atrocious, and he has a degree from Harvard. Why doesn't somebody teach him a little grammar?
GEORGE W. Bush is most impressive speaker. I believe every word that young man says. He has given me hope. He has strengthened my resolve to be a good American, to be a good citizen. I'm telling you that boy has really impressed me, and I don't ever want to hear anything about his not being intelligent. That boy has more intelligence than Bill Clinton. Bush is an honest man and a very intelligent one at that. I'm so impressed.
WILL SOMEONE please tell me why, after spend an hour listening to a presidential speech, that there are a bunch of politicians that newscasters who come on and think that they have to explain to us what the president said. I think he speaks very clearly, and I don't think all the American public is completely dumb. This seems very ridiculous to me.
