Wrongfully fired

ONE DOES not need to know the details to realize that the Cape Girardeau Board of Education treated Central High School principal Randall Fidler in a disgusting, shameful, even sordid manner. Fidler is a straight arrow and a straight shooter. It is painfully obvious that a weak-kneed board of education succumbed to pressure from certain segments of the community and wrongfully fired Fidler, who is hard-working, honest and dedicated to his calling. In addition, he is a man of solid principles and embodies everything a community should want in a secondary-school principal. That he was shown the door by the board speaks volumes about their gutless lack of concern with the welfare of students and staff and myopic preoccupation with nothing but their own power.

Wretched edubabble

CAPE GIRARDEAU school superintendent Dan Steska's public relations edubabble in response to the unjust removal of principal Randie Fidler was wretched.

Lower and lower

LOOK AT what Bill Clinton has done. He's sold his soul for a library and his wife's intended ascension to White House supremacy. It appears he's taken a lot of money from a lot of people for pardons. That is even lower than I thought he would go. I know a lot of people think we should quit focusing on what he's done and move on, but it's terrible law breaking from the highest law officer in the land. He should not get away with it. He and Hillary appear as culpable as any bribe-accepting officials I can remember.

Time for apologies

WHERE ARE the apologies from the people who claimed George W. Bush stole the election? The people who claimed he shouldn't be in office now owe the man his due respect as the duly elected president. The votes have been counted by USA Today, Knight Ridder and the Miami Herald. Seems that Al Gore gained a total of 49 votes instead of the 600 and his crybaby liberal hooligans claimed. Now let's all come together under the first honest man to lead the country in eight years.

FBI sales are up

THIS IS in response to the caller who said Bill Clinton sold technology to China. Maybe that caller hasn't been watching the news lately. I recall seeing that an FBI agent has been selling top-secret information for 15 years. Maybe everyone should stop blaming Clinton for others' mistakes.

Interesting quotes

OBVIOUSLY, THE thought of removing Abraham Lincoln from the Republican Party was too much for one caller. I understand that perfectly since Lincoln was his party's only hero. I notice whenever a Republican president needs a quote, it's a Democrat he always quotes. Now George W. Bush is quoting Al Gore. Very interesting.

Pervasive racism

THE CALLER who remarked that the events of recent days convinced him that we blacks had had our first president only serves to illustrate his own ignorance and the pervasive racism that is rampant in Southeast Missouri and Cape Girardeau.

Length of service

CAPE BOARD of education member Dr. Bob Fox said Central High School principal Randie Fidler was fired in part because of a need for a change. Excuse me? That's the same as saying Fidler was fired for no good reason. If it's not, then it seems reasonable to ask that the same standards be applied to Fox and inquire as to how long he has been a board member.
