IN RESPONSE to the person who said the crosses on I-55 were a waste of time: The crosses were 100 percent donated including all materials and labor. The people who did this project are a group of people who are very active in trying to make this world a better place for children. These crosses represent the millions of babies killed by abortion each year. We have to be their voice. It takes one person to create and push an idea to make it happen. Maybe the caller could create the Valentine's Day drive. Evil flourishes when good men do nothing.
I WOULD like to respond to the callers who have been criticizing teachers. I have never seen a teacher get 45 minutes for lunch. We choke our food down. Like most teachers, I went into the profession to help students. If a parent can't find time to help one child at night with his homework, how do you expect a teacher who has 20-something children to do it all? I know we chose this profession because we wanted to make some type of difference, and teachers like myself are doing the best we can considering the circumstances. Maybe instead of helping them with their homework at night, parents could find the time to teach them respect for their elders and manners. Then we could successfully do our jobs during the day.
HOORAY FOR Sen. Jean Carnahan, a woman who votes with a sense of duty and personal pride.
SEN. JEAN Carnahan voted against the will of the people in Missouri? If I remember correctly, John Ashcroft was rejected in November by the people of Missouri. You Republicans seem to have an extremely short memory.
THIS IS in regards to the many comments pertaining to Jean Carnahan's vote against John Ashcroft. When Missourians went to the polls in November to elect someone to the Senate, they elected Mel Carnahan, full well knowing that Jean Carnahan would be the person to represent Missouri. They had the chance then to elect Ashcroft. Obviously Jean Carnahan had validated reasons for not voting for Ashcroft. She does not have to vote for him as attorney general simply because he happens to reside in the same state. Who is to say that Mel Carnahan would have voted one way or another for Ashcroft?
I THINK it was deplorable that Jean Carnahan voted against John Ashcroft for attorney general. If Ashcroft had not been a gentleman and moral person, he could have challenged the election of Mel Carnahan and tied the election up for months. I just think Carnahan should be ashamed of herself for letting the liberals in Washington get to her.
I HAVE been to every Indian men's basketball game this year. I have noticed a trend that occurs with about a minute to play. It does not matter if we are losing or winning, but over half of the fans stand up and leave. I'm not sure if it's because they have no faith in the team, or if beating traffic is really that important. We stay until the clock hits zero, and we can still make it home in about 15 minutes. I have seen it with 11 seconds on the clock and we are down by a few points. Wouldn't you like to see the Indians win or go into overtime? Even if we are going to win, stay and congratulate the men on a victory. I think they could use some fan appreciation. Show some respect for your basketball team and stay until the end of the game.
