I AM so tired of the Grammys accepting bad for good when it comes to music. Specifically, I mean rap. It disappoints me that someone like Eminem can even be nominated. In my family, if his song comes on the car radio we immediately turn it off. It's not fit for children to hear. I don't think people like this should be recognized. It's a shame when a group like Third Eye Blind who has put out good music year after year fails to get the recognition they deserve. What can people do about this? How do we raise our children into the new millennium?
IT SAYS in the Bible you will be persecuted for your religious beliefs. Look at the attacks and hate shown by many against John Ashcroft or anyone who has the nerve to admit to Christian values. Some Christians should wake up and put God before a political party or a civil rights banner.
I THINK there should be a stoplight at the intersection of Independence and Mount Auburn. Five o'clock traffic is the worst time to ever get there, and it's only going to get worse. A stoplight should be put there.
There are plans for a stoplight at that busy intersection as a part of the city's overall street-improvement program.
IT APPEARS that the Democrats have lost their sense of humor, especially when the joke is finally leaving the White House.
THE CITY of Cape is cheap. It's bad enough that the city employees don't get a decent raise every year. Now the insurance premium for employees' families has almost doubled. We can no longer afford insurance premiums for our family. We can't buy food and pay our insurance premiums too.
REGARDING THE story about Oldsmobile in TBY, my father bought an Olds with hydromatic drive in 1941, and I learned to drive in that car.
I WAS reading where Kelly School Board and a committee are thinking about putting a tax proposal up for vote for the sixth time. The citizens in Scott County don't trust the school board for the mess they made several years ago when they tore down a perfectly good gymnasium and built a new one. They could have made classrooms out of the old gym. They won't admit to the people that they made a mistake. They talk about their classroom sizes. I don't know how many they have in them, but years ago we had about 30 in each class, and the students came out just as smart as they do these days.
THE HUMANE Society recently paid for a large billboard in Jackson that is basically an anti-hunting, anti-trapping advertisement. Apparently this bunch, which is so adamant about controlling pet populations, thinks wildlife populations should be left unchecked to overpopulate and eventually succumb to disease and starvation. The Humane Society provides a fine service for our region, but it needs to stick with domestic animals and let the professionals at the Department of Conservation manage our wildlife. Unlike the Humane Society, these people understand natural law.
I HAVE always been told that anybody can become president. Now I believe it.
