JOHN ASHCROFT is being tried in the media before he even has the job of attorney general. President-elect Bush is going to have a hard time putting any good men in office. I think it's a terrible shame. I WAS pleased to see that Broadway was opened up. I made it downtown without having to take a detour. For those who complain, it could always be worse. Getting good men

Broadway open again

I WAS pleased to see that Broadway was opened up. I made it downtown without having to take a detour. For those who complain, it could always be worse. I'm just glad Broadway has been open as long as it has.

They can work too

I HAVE an 8-hour-a-day job, standing all day long. My husband works in the bitter cold. I heard with my own ears the other day one young lady explaining to another young lady how to go about getting food stamps and help. She is as capable of working as I or my husband, probably more capable. We are told we need to have respect for these people. How? Why?

Good snow removal

I'D LIKE to compliment the city for the snow removal on the streets. They've done an excellent job so far this year.

Lesson in politics

I FEEL we Americans are in a good position to see what our Congress is all about. With the nomination of John Ashcroft to be attorney general and the special-interest groups insisting on having their way, I wonder if members of Congress will vote for what they believe to be best for our country or give in to the interest groups who force their views on everyone and demand you believe as they do. Tom Daschle, the leading Democrat in Congress, has already said that Ashcroft is a man of high integrity and honesty and has a good record of public service. Will he vote for Ashcroft or go for a buyout with Jesse Jackson, Planned Parenthood and the National Organization for Women? This nomination process should set the tone for the election of 2002. Do you want representatives in Congress to vote for what's right and good for our country according to the law of the land, or do you want these special interest groups to ram their views down your throat, even if it goes against what's best for us as a country? Stay tuned, my friends. This should be a good lesson in politics at work.

Outrageous picture

IN RESPONSE to the veteran who called in about the picture of the Beatles sitting and standing on the American flag: I too was very outraged with this picture. The Beatles did enough to our country when they came over here with their so-called music, their beating, banging, screaming, hollering rock music was the start of the rock music of today. What a disgrace. I think the Missourian could have published something more patriotic. I am a veteran plus a true American citizen.

A BIG thank you to our city street department or anyone else who had a part in the wonderful way our city streets were cleared of the snow and sleet and ice. We sure thank them for this being taken care of quickly.
