I noticed in my drive into Cape Girardeau on Route K that the Notre Dame students had picked up the trash and placed the yellow bags along the road to be picked up. The next day the bags hadn't been picked up yet, but there was a lot of new trash along the road. If you see someone throw out trash, get their license number and report them. Let's keep this beautiful landscape clean.
I think that if the city workers want to use the A/C in the city vehicles, then so be it. I do believe we need to worry about more things than people using the A/C in city vehicles.
MY children attend a private school where they wear uniforms. They are allowed one casual day at the end of the month. There is a totally different atmosphere when the children are allowed to wear street clothes. When wearing uniforms, everyone, regardless of economic status, is equal. Uniform costs are affordable. You can buy two or three shirts and pants (which is all you need) for less than $100. We also have a "clothing closet" at school were you can bring in any uniform clothing your child has outgrown and trade it in for a bigger size. Let's focus on the education, not a fashion show.
THE proposed smoke- free ordinance does not prohibit anyone from smoking. Smokers can light up all they want outside or on their personal property. It simply states that businesses that serve the public cannot allow smoking. That seems to be a reasonable request since medicine has clearly shown secondhand smoke is harmful to everyone's health.
WHY does Jackson R-2 always have to be the last one to close school when bad weather is on the horizon? It's better to be safe than sorry, and we have missed less school than anyone in the heartland. My child's safety is way more important than the state's "numbers." Come on, let's put our children first.
I would like to hear some comments from medical doctors in Cape Girardeau on the smoking issue. They have been strangely silent. Funny, when I go in their office, they love to nag the smokers and overweight people to quit cigarettes and fatty foods. I don't think I have heard one doctor's opinion on this issue.
