Teacher tenure
According to the Dec. 8 Time magazine, "The biggest problem with U.S. public schools is lack of effective teaching, according to decades of research." Perhaps teachers can begin the process of rehabilitating schools by agreeing to a merit pay system and voluntarily giving up tenure.
Get to the truth
I HAVE tried to read all the articles on the Josh Kezer situation, but I'm sure I missed some. So far, what I have read has been outstanding. The reporter is doing a fantastic job. I hope the truth, whatever it is, wins out. If it is found out that the special prosecutor acted wrongfully, he should serve the same amount of time in jail as he has caused this man to serve.
Evangelical switch
I PLEAD guilty to trying to stifle evangelical Christians. However, I plead forgiveness since more and more evangelicals are beginning to see the light and vote Democratic.
GOP movement
THERE IS much debate about whether the GOP should move to the center or remain at the right. Those who want to move even further to the right argue that John McCain is a moderate who lost handily to Obama. There are two logical flaws with that argument. First, it assumes that there was no backlash against President Bush and his right-leaning policies that affected McCain. Second, it ignores the fact that the American people rejected the moderate candidate for a candidate who is unashamedly liberal. Thus, it seems that a move to the right would only further alienate the GOP from the moderates necessary to win a national election.
Radio support
PRESIDENT-ELECT Barack Obama and the Democratic Congress will be far too savvy to reimplement the Fairness Doctrine. The blatherings of overwhelmingly dominant conservative talk radio is solely responsible for turning the electorate toward the Democrats.
Beautiful decorations
THANK YOU to the Jackson family who lives at the corner of Jackson Boulevard and Farmington Road. Every year I look forward to seeing the beautifully lit tree in your front yard.
Republican history
THE WAY Republicans can become popular again is by being a party that obeys the law, takes oaths seriously and works to return this country back to its foundations, limited government, peace and freedom. Both parties have become more tyrannical, and the masses that vote party lines don't realize that. It was a Republican who abolished slavery. It was a Republican president who created the first national park. A higher percentage of Republican congressmen voted for civil rights. When the Democratic Party was founded, it was an homage to Thomas Jefferson. This is the heritage of the party that bears little resemblance to its historic values.
