Good to have

I WANTED to thank the Southeast Missourian for delivering my newspaper through the snow. It's been a pleasure to go out and find my newspaper. I know it was a little late, but it was still good to have.

Sad and angry

I'M GRIEF-stricken and angry that a 16-year-old child and her baby was burned to death in an outbuilding not suitable for a human being. I believe everyone shares part of the blame for this terrible tragedy. God bless this child and her baby. They aren't living in a storage shed now. They're home.

Marriage objection

THIS IS concerning that Rodney Yoder. I'm glad that are keeping him in the mental institution but I don't think it's right that they should let him marry. I think that ought to be stopped, actually for anybody that's in a mental hospital.

Good to hear

I'M CALLING in regard to everyone complaining about the loud mufflers. I just want to say that the people who are complaining about the loud mufflers need to thank the Lord that they have their hearing where they can even hear the loud mufflers, number one. Number two, they're saying that it's the kids that have the loud mufflers. I'm glad they're spending their money on custom exhaust rather than spending it on drugs or alcohol.

Tell them now

IF A child is 12 or 13, they're old enough to know that there's no Santa Claus. I think that caller was a little extreme no matter what age. She wanted to say, "Yes, Virginia, there really is a Santa." I want to say, "Wake up, Eileen, there's a real world out there," and it only makes a child look very foolish that they're still believing in Santa and everybody else is very aware that there is not one.

Other pollutants

LEAF BURNING isn't the only smoking air polluter. There's also fireplaces, stores that have trash burners, stores that allow smoking behind stockroom doors which filters out to the sales floor and businesses with burning candles. Now that air conditioners are shut down, all this creates more breathing problems.

Buying elections

I SEE where the Democratic party and Mrs. Carnahan spent over $3 million more than Jim Talent in the Senate race. Where are all these rich Republicans who buy elections from poor Democrats? This propaganda is spread every election by Democratic politicians as a ploy to pit rich against poor, hate and envy. They never mention that there are more Democrat millionaires in Congress than Republicans. They never mention the big donations of liberal celebrities, Barbra Streisand, Ted Turner, movie stars, gay rights, big unions, pro-choice and other big supporters.

Believe in Santa

I'M 70 years old, I've raised eight children and I still believe in Santa Claus. I'll bet Joe Sullivan does, too. Santa Claus is the spirit of Christmas.

Don't use name

ANYONE WHO calls themselves a Christian and wants to drop bombs on other people is a Christian in name only. So go ahead and make your excuses, but don't call yourself a Christian.

Jesus is Santa

I'M REFERRING to the call about believing in Santa. I taught my kids to believe that Jesus Christ is their Santa because he is the only one that can see them when they're sleeping, knows when they're awake, knows when they've been bad or good. If we teach our kids that Santa is just Jesus, we won't have to worry about if the teacher tells them there is no Santa, because Jesus Christ lives on forever. He's the reason for the season, not Santa Claus.

I WAS on Independence Street here in Cape. I was coming up the hill, and this obnoxious jerk in this white Ford stops in the middle of the road to pick someone up instead of pulling up further in the driveway, and then he sits there and he makes everyone go around him like he owns the street. Where are the police when someone's acting like that? Talk about obnoxious and rude behavior. Who does he think he is, the president or something, just because he's driving a pretty nice white car? Whatever.

Love a parade

THE JACKSON Christmas parade was a sight to behold. There were bands, carolers, floats and so much more to make it special. It was nice to get out and visit with friends from the community and nice to see the pictures of our special day in the newspaper.
