Holiday tipping

THANK YOU to the server who let the public know we only make $3.33 an hour by law. Thank you, Southeast Missourian, for posting it in the paper as well. Now let's hope people read it and become a bit more generous with the holiday season approaching.

More sunlight

I GUESS the power brokers in Cape Girardeau County can eat some humble pie after Jay Purcell won re-election. It appears the citizens opted for openness in county government over the good old boy's club way of doing the people's business. Let the sunlight in.

Praying for the future

I AM a Republican and proud to be one. I am not going to say anything bad about Barack Obama. I hope he does a good job as president. Now that the election is over, we all need to get down on our knees and pray that God will protect our country and that Obama will seek God's help for decisions for our country. God bless the U.S.A.

Nonsensical blather

ANY ATTEMPT by the Obama administration to enforce what is called the Fairness Doctrine (equal radio air time for opposing points of view) would be foolish. A significant number of votes for Barack Obama were secured in large part by the silly but often inflammatory shibboleths uttered ad nauseam by the likes of Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity. Leave them alone, and let them keep talking. If allowed to do so they will destroy whatever vestiges are left of the nonsensical blather they bellow.

Proud to be American

TODAY I can say that I am proud to be an American. All of the values and beliefs I overcame as a child, including racism and social greed, have finally became mainstream. Barack Obama, a biracial man was elected president, not just barely but by a landslide. I am so proud Americans have overcome their fear and ignorance to look past the color of one's skin and see people for what they are worth.

Honor our veterans

VETERANS DAY is upon us. We should honor and respect all of our heroes and their families for the sacrifices they have made for our country.

Thanks, coaches

I WOULD like to commend coaches Lane and Reavis and the excellent coaching they did for the Colts little league football team this year. These coaches are the best. The Colts are winners because of the excellent leadership these coaches showed all season. The patience these guys have is amazing. The players this year did an excellent job, but without the coaching they would not have been outstanding. The Colts may have lost the last game but are winners in the end.

Ignoring religion

I AM saddened by the attitude displayed both by the media and by what has proved to be a majority of the voters. For at least 12 years openly Christian political candidates and leaders have been dogged by criticism of their religious beliefs. In the past several months, president-elect Barack Obama's longtime membership in and strong support of a church that does not preach the love of Christ but instead spews racial division and hatred has been downplayed by the media. Between the media's casual treatment of this issue and the lack of biblically sound values on the part of voters, this situation, which displays a profound and disturbing aspect of Obama's fundamental character, was largely ignored. I wonder how much longer God will continue to bless America when voters do not honor him. In all sincerity, I can only say, God help us all.
