Parade kudos

I attended the Southeast Homecoming parade and just wanted to say how great I thought it was. The floats were superb, period. I always enjoy bringing my family to the parade, and this year was just like other years in being an outstanding event.

Food stamps

The assistance system is backward. They give young girls $500 in food stamps and they want to give old and disabled people $10 in food stamps? The older people who can't work should get more than $10, and the young girls who get more food stamps and have more babies should get less.

No new taxes

The city wants to renew the hotel tax to pay for a police station. We didn't need a dog park and other things they've built and they've wasted money from the casino. Why don't they take casino money and build a police station instead of more and more taxes.

Soros and SOS

A little more information about George Soros. He spent tons of money helping to get Democrats elected to secretary of state. They have more control over the elections than anyone. And I do believe there was a lot of fraud in the last two elections.

Obama's poll ratings

Daniel somebody or other with The Wall Street Journal claimed President Obama's approval rating is collapsing and yet über conservative Pat Buchanan said that at about 45 percent (it's risen 3 points since the House Republicans shut down the government) it is quite good, particularly when compared to other Washington-based politicians. The Wall Street Journal columnist's piece exemplifies the wish being the father of the thought.

'So help me God'

Well, again a victory for liberalism as the Air Force Academy has decided to make the phrase "so help me God" optional in its honor code in what it called an effort to "build a culture of dignity and respect." Just keep removing God from everything but you can never change the fact that this country was founded on Christian principles. So you "political correct" crowd who want no mention of God, the Bible tells what God does when societies turn from him. God help us!

Long column

With regard to his column "Touching the third rail," well said, Jeff Long, well said.

Slow down

To the complaint about the bridge by the Pilot House: The bridge has been around probably longer than you have. All you have to do is slow down and enjoy the country life.

Race tension

It seems the longer Obama is in office, the worse racial tension gets.

Good leader?

Is our country moving in the right direction? Is our president a good leader? Does he build up the people of this nation or does he pit them one against the other?

Health insurance

There is a percentage of the American people who will have to buy new health insurance policies because the ones they have are "junk insurance" policies, offering poor coverage and in violation of required coverage after a part of the Affordable Care Act had already been implemented. Those who will pay higher premiums will, in most instances, have that cost offset by tax subsidies. Regardless of the coordinated campaign of misrepresentation by the Republicans, the American people will come to realize the wisdom of the Affordable Care Act and future generations will correctly place President Obama within the pantheon of America's greatest presidents.
