Thanks for keys

I WOULD like to thank the person who found my car keys in the Wal-Mart parking lot and put them on my windshield. I wish I could give you a hug. Thank you so much.

Adoption records

I WAS adopted 39 years ago. I also have searched for my birth parents and have come up with nothing. I think those records should be made available to those who have been adopted and are looking for their birth family.

Beverage proceeds

I AGREE with the comment about the great music at the fund-raiser for the Humane Society. The Runaways were awesome, and attendance was unbelievable. One point needs to be clarified. All proceeds from the event did not go directly to our furry friends. The profit from the ridiculously priced adult beverages did not go to the Humane Society. I didn't complain about the price at the time of the dance because I, like many others, assumed the beverage proceeds were going to the Humane Society. Shame on whoever from the Humane Society allowed this to happen.

Holiday gas prices

I WOULD like to thank the local gasoline distributors who didn't raise their prices for the Thanksgiving holiday.

More schooling

GOING TO school until age 18 is good for most kids. Keeping them in school until age 21 is nonsense. The only ones who should be considered for prolonged schooling are special-ed students. And it should be the parents' option. If a student can't read by age 17 or 18, another year of schooling is in order.

Help for assistants

PEOPLE IN Cape Girardeau need to be careful about calling for more teachers, because this would mean that the superintendents would be hiring more assistant superintendents who would need assistants, and this would go down the line. It would make things worse instead of better.

Shopping threat

I HEARD a girl say she was going to beat people up if she didn't get a DVD player. If someone wants something that bad, I'd let her have it.

Bait and switch?

"I'M SORRY. We're out." I wonder how many people who got up early to shop heard this. Shoppers get to a store early so they can get the bargains. Then they find out the item they want has sold out. It makes me wonder if merchants are playing a bait-and-switch game.

Good columns

I WOULD like to complement Sam Blackwell on his columns. I dearly wish he'd write one every day. When I read his columns, I have my coffee, and it's just like he's sitting right there talking to me. He's so down to earth. It's just really great. His column about Willie Nelson was really good. It brought back good memories. Thank you and keep up the good work, Sam. You're really good.

Eyes wide open

IN RESPONSE to the comment about those puppies being fat Republican puppies: It's been my experience that when puppies are born they have their eyes closed for quite a while, and they are Democratic puppies. Once their eyes come open, they become Republican puppies.

Thanks for checkbook

I WOULD like to express my appreciation and gratitude to the person who found my checkbook and turned it into the office at Wal-Mart. I also would like the person who did this to contact me so I can thank him personally. I am truly thankful the right person found my checkbook.

Economics lesson

I GET tired of hearing about how good the economy is. A story said, "Housing construction plunged in October as builders slashed activity to the lowest level in more than six years." This means the housing industry is bordering on a recession. Roadway and Yellow Truck lines said their business was slow. If goods are not moving and housing starts are down, there's something drastically wrong. George Strickland, a Nobel Prize winner in economics, said unemployment figures are phony. He said the real unemployment figure is about 8 to 9 percent. What is the matter with people that they don't understand where the world is really at?
