Silence on spending
REP. Jo Ann Emerson, state Sen. Jason Crowell and local tea party interests have been vocal in their criticism of the Democrats' tax and spend policies. However, when Southeast Missouri State University proposed borrowing $58 million, these people were silent.
Save money
THE SB40 board has 10 members, and they are considering hiring a director. I'm concerned that a director is going to take money away from where it's needed. These 10 people were supposed to be able to do the job.
Pay cut needed
I think members of Congress ought to take a $30,000 pay cut. They don't need the money. Start helping senior citizens.
Conservative America
MOST Americans are conservative. Most believe that children are best raised by a family that has both a mother and a father, and that it's too bad when parents divorce. Most think that you shouldn't spend more money than you have. Most think that we ought to take care of people who have trouble and not give away money to people who don't need it.
Presidential salary
I heard that the president receives a salary of $400,000 a year. That's a lot of money, and he gets a lot of things paid for.

Hunting concern
TO hunters: What do you think about the closing of the ditch in the Little River Drainage District, the flood land that's been open for public hunting for decades. Many hunters will now not have a place to hunt.
Family unit
GIRLS should not keep having babies and remain unmarried. We have a couple on our street who is not married and has five children. She gets checks for all of the children, and the man doesn't work at all. This should be stopped.
Girl Scout troop
OUR Girl Scout troop recently had a scavenger hunt in Cape Girardeau and Scott City. Thank you to all the neat people that we met and helped our girls.
Mail uncertainty
FOR years the one consistent thing was the mail service. Like clockwork, everyday by 3 p.m. I would have my mail, sometimes earlier on Saturdays. But now it seems the mail is as predictable as the weather. I realize that we are in an ever-changing society, but the one thing that used to be so reliable is now a thing of uncertainty.
Compromise needed
I think a father in the home with a welfare mother is better than no father in the home. People shouldn't live in fear of losing their food stamps if they get a job. Perhaps there needs to be a compromise.
