WHEN you give tax breaks to the rich, they, in turn, hire more people and open more businesses. As a result, more people are paying taxes and the federal revenue increases. The other option is to keep raising taxes on everyone. The result is for the poor to pay more and the rich go overseas, therefore forcing the poor to pay more in taxes. The class hatred in this country is insane...

Thanks, Postal Service

I am really glad that the U.S. Postal Service has decided to stay with six-day delivery service. My mother lives in Cape Girardeau, and she looks forward to seeing her mailman every day. Thank you, letter carriers of Cape Girardeau, for keeping my mom in your daily rounds.

Students' complaints

I'VE had six grandkids and two daughters go to Southeast, and their only complaint is that there is no place to park and there are some foreign teachers they cannot understand.

Cat laws

I read this morning about a man that was issued a summons for allowing a dog to run at large. What is the city of Jackson going to do about all the cats running at large? Why doesn't an owner have to keep their cat on a leash or in the house instead of letting them run through everyone's yards?

Rosters OK

THERE has been lots of discussion about poultry in Cape Girardeau's city limits. A friend of mine who owns chickens said, "Would you rather hear a rooster crow or a dog bark?" The rooster crows at dawn, the dog barks all night. Bring on the roosters.

Presidential power

PEOPLE are now blaming President Obama for the cost of living in the world. We know he has power, but that kind of power? Come on.

Great story

THE Southeast Missourian had a great story on the Scott City teacher donating some of her hair to Locks of Love. Every day you hear nothing but bad news on TV and in the newspapers. This was a good-feeling story. The school should be praised and thanked for their support of cancer patients and their fellow student. God bless everyone of them and the Southeast Missourian for printing this great article and the pictures.

Smoke-free

IN regards to the increasing rate of smoking in Missouri, I cannot believe that intelligent people (especially pregnant women) would choose to inhale vapored cancer. Can any political leader show enough guts to make Cape Girardeau smoke-free?

More patrol needed

THIS year's Homecoming parade was awesome, where we decided to sit was not. We sat next to some girls who were acting very inappropriately with other girls and guys. If the city can't have more patrol in that area, then maybe the Homecoming parade and activities should be just for Southeast students and not open to the public.

Haunted house

I am not a supporter of haunted houses, but neither am I an active opponent. However, it is absolutely ludicrous that the city sponsors a haunted house that does not prohibit children under the age of 10 from being admitted. They even offered a discount.

Shame on America

IT is a shame that the children can't enjoy life today like we use to. They can't go trick or treating because the candy may be tampered with. We have let America go.

Decision made

THE article about the heavy burden on the president of Southeast's student government was absolutely ridiculous. This organization will "vote" on the issue, but its vote means nothing. The decision has been made already.

Broadway mess

Once again on the Sunday morning after a homecoming parade, Broadway was a mess. If the university can have a parade, why can't they clean up?
