Medical care

THREE YEARS ago our family stopped going to doctors in Cape Girardeau and began using St. Louis doctors. We have chronic issues such as heart trouble, asthma and lupus. We probably go to the doctor more than the average family. Even with the gas expense, it costs our family much less to go to St. Louis doctors. We get one bill even if we get a procedure done at the lab and the results sent to the doctor. Why? Because the St. Louis doctors are HMOs for the insurance I carry, as opposed to Cape doctors who refuse to be HMOs and are PPOs instead. I can't remember the last time I had to pay a penny for medical care. Give me St. Louis medical care any day of the week.

Useful drug reps

I HAVE had it with people complaining about health-care providers talking to drug reps. I am a health-care provider and depend on the samples they provide. I do not expect them to bring me anything to use their products, and they know that. I do not get lunches from them. I give them respect, listen to their speech and get back to my patients. Most reps understand that you are busy and try not to take up your time. Almost every single day, a patient will ask me for samples of medication. How do you expect this to happen if the drug reps do not leave them?

Phony Rush

SHAME ON Rush Limbaugh. He has managed to disgrace Cape Girardeau again, this time by calling anti-war soldiers phony. The definition for "phony" is not genuine, fake. I could not think of a better word to describe Rush. Phony fits him perfectly.

Weather and science

WE'VE BEEN enjoying watching Jason Lindsey do the weather forecast on KFVS, and we've enjoyed the science projects he's done. We'd like to see more of Jason on KFVS.

Icy bridges

HOW COME when the Missouri Department of Transportation started building the interchange on Interstate 55 it didn't build it like the one at Oak Ridge instead of adding more bridges? In the winter, these bridges will get iced up, and motorists won't realize they're slick. There will be a lot of wrecks.

Dealer not wanted

I READ the comment regarding the drug dealer who has a track record going back 15 to 20 years. We live down the street, and he's out of jail again. Nobody can believe that's going on. He is not wanted in this neighborhood. The neighbors are going to get a petition up and present it to the mayor.

No more Clintons

IS ANYONE as sick as I am at the Democratic Party running a political campaign for eight years of hate, lies and rumors trying to get another Clinton as president? Who wants Bill Clinton as first gentleman? Does anyone remember his shame? How can people get this low?

Leading complainer

TO THOSE WHO would like to keep adding people to the "Missouri Wall of Fame," I ask: Are you willing to pay all the expenses involved in the process? Did you support the mural that now exists? I would guess the answer is no. Like always, you want something to complain about and have captured one more item in which you feel like a leader with others agreeing. Perhaps one day in the future there will be a desire to expand the mural. Since you have so many additions to suggest, perhaps you'll also support adding those individuals financially. Give those responsible a call and tell them you are willing to put your money where your mouth is.

After the ice age

A COMMENT said "Think for yourself" and talked about global warming not being a natural sequence, I wonder what this person thinks about the article about the duckbill dinosaur's skeleton found in Utah. How does this persons explain the melting after the ice age? I agree with one thing: The increased rate of warming is due to people. The modern conveniences blamed for global warming didn't exist during the dinosaurs and during the ice age.

Running red light

I AM a Southeast Missouri State University student. I was driving back from the River Campus behind two shuttles. At the Broadway intersection, the light was already yellow, but the first shuttle went through. The light went red before the shuttle was halfway across. Then the second shuttle ran the red light as well. I could not believe it. I'm glad I have a car this year, because I would not want to ride that shuttle.
