The idea of providing space for a community garden may be noble, but it isn't always workable. The garden on Perryville Road is a mess and has been an eyesore since day one. I'm sure the planners had the best of intentions, but maybe it's time to focus on a more suitable community service project. Now is the ideal time to replant the grass.
Reading today's article from A.P. Oct. 5, "Auto prices to drop as demands falter." This is just the tip of the iceberg. They failed to mention the possibility that soaring costs for "Affordable Healthcare" may have consumers thinking twice about large car loans.
Our city dignitaries want to do away with police escorts to the citizens of Cape Girardeau but in the same breath, they will continue police escorts for law-enforcement officials, firefighters killed in line of duty and dignitaries. Really, you can't hear how bad that sounds? It should be ALL or none. Our city dignitaries should go back to where they come from and leave our tradition alone.
I wasn't going to do this initially but since none of the Republicans on this year's general election ballot failed to condemn Donald Trump, I'm going to vote a straight Democrat ticket.
The Republican party needs to force Trump to watch the old movie; War Games. So maybe he will understand that shooting nukes is not a good idea, as he thinks it is.
To the person who removed my Clinton for President sign: You trespassed on private property and showed total disregard for my right to freedom of speech. Your behavior was juvenile, disrespectful and counter to the core beliefs of a democratic nation.
It seems to me that when Hopper Road was closed, we were told that it would open in October. There isn't any concrete even poured yet! Why isn't any common sense used when these jobs are done? Like concentrating on a specific area so that traffic can resume. But that's the mentality of our city for you!
Sorry to burst some of you guys' bubbles with the truth. An albino fawn is not a "beautiful miracle" as stated in a recent Speak Out. It is a genetic aberration that really should be culled before it spreads its defective genes. In the past nature would have taken care of its own mistake. Because of its lack of natural camouflage a predator would have gotten it within a week or so of its birth. But since we've wiped out most of the predators, more and more of these mutations are showing up. People need to realize that human concepts of beauty have absolutely nothing to do with nature's plan.
Thanks to new federal regulations, I think it's great that some area public employees are going to get a long overdue and well deserved raise. It's unfortunate that this kind of necessary change had to come from Washington instead of from citizens and public employers at the local level who realized the plight of but took no steps to raise the pay of what was a growing number of exploited employees.
