GREAT job to the cast and crew of "Into the Woods." They did an excellent job. I'm so glad Cape Girardeau invested in a nice place to watch theater and other events.
Go Cards
THIS is to all the so-called Cardinal fans who had the Cardinals written off earlier this year. Just to let you know, it's not over until the fat lady sings, and I haven't heard her clear her throat yet.
PLEASE, don't close our post office delivery. I'm on a rural route. We're senior citizens. Not everyone has a computer to do banking and everything else online. We have to use the mail. I hope the government listens to people and does not close the post offices.
School library
ABOUT 10 years ago the Cape Girardeau superintendent and the school board told us that they had to build a new high school because the old one was obsolete and dangerous and we couldn't have students in there anymore. Now we have a new school board and a new superintendent and they're telling us they need to spend more money on the old high school building to improve the library. Well, that library was plenty big enough. The library doesn't need to be bigger. What's the deal?
Where to start?
IN a piece published in the Southeast Missourian, Charles Schwab recently wrote in part that we need to review all laws and regulations and "if something is a job killer, put a moratorium on it." Where do you suggest we start, Charles. Maybe by putting a moratorium on all mine safety regulations?
National anthem
I am a big sports fan. I am also retired military, having served on active duty for more than 20 years. I was watching the NASCAR Camping World truck race recently. I heard the worst performance of the national anthem I have ever heard. When they finished there was hardly any applause from the crowd. I am a proud veteran and it really grinds my gears when people perform our nation's anthem improperly. This song represents our country and should be done correctly, as written, and without all the personal versions -- not to mention the so-called professionals who forget the words.
D.C. gridlock
THE capitalist economic system is always vulnerable to booms and busts. This is one of its inherent weaknesses. There are some things government can do to slow down an overheated economy or stimulate a weak one. However, the body politic is divided down the middle on what those things should be. Thus, the paralyzing gridlock in Washington. Want to know what's wrong in Washington, D.C.? Look in the mirror.
Trendy grading
JACKSON schools should not be receiving so much criticism for adopting a trendy fad in its grading system. This kind of stuff happens all of the time and will inevitably fade away.
