Two commandments
I'D LIKE to speak out about the Ten Commandments. When Christ came into the world, he preached two new commandments, the first two commandments of the 10. He said love God and love your neighbor as yourself. We need to preach the first two commandments. This is the new way. It is Christ's way. And it's the only way.
Personal support
I SEE these yellow ribbons on cars saying "Support our troops" who are fighting a war to bring democracy to Iraq, which doesn't know or want democracy. I support this war by paying taxes. I morally support this war by saying my prayer for the innocent involved in the war who had to serve. God will make us pay for invading another country for no reason at all.
Doing all he can
NOW YOU'RE getting on my nerves. Don't criticize Dr. Mike Cowan at the high school. He is doing a great job as principal. He's doing all he can, and he wants to make the academics at Central High School the best he can. He goes to lots and lots of football games and choir and orchestra performances. He goes to all kinds of extra things because he has time and he loves to do it. He loves the students. But he delegates and lets the athletic director run the athletic department. He lets the football coach run the football team. He's just there to watch and make sure his students are the very best that they can be.
The death of dissent
TO BE considered a good American today, one must pledge his undying allegiance to the state. We must never question authority, because the state knows better than we do. You are either with us or against us. Just wave the flag and shut up. Dissent is no longer an option, for you will be labeled as a traitor, terrorist and un-American.
Show Me Confederacy
THE MISSOURI Legislature approved an Ordinance of Secession on Oct. 31, 1861, and was then accepted into the Confederate States of America. The Confederate flag contains 13 stars. These stars represent the 11 states that are typically thought of as Southern states with the remaining two being for Kentucky and Missouri.
Fighting for South
TO THE person who said Missouri was not in the Confederacy. Just because Missouri wasn't in the Confederacy doesn't mean we didn't fight for the Confederacy or that we don't have ancestors who did.
Support for teachers
I CANNOT believe the Cape Girardeau School Board froze teacher salaries and canceled their dental insurance and now is going to offer a new superintendent $140,000. Does anyone think this is going to motivate teachers to stay late or come in early to help a student who is struggling or has been sick? Parents, do the teachers a favor and express your support of them, since the school board has not been doing it.
Immature political ads
TO ALL the politicians out there. What I would like to hear on TV ads is you telling me why I should vote for you, not why I shouldn't vote for the other person. Come on. Quit your back stabbing. My kids are acting more mature than you are.
Creating biased news
SINCLAIR BROADCAST Group and its local affiliate, KBSI, should be stopped from airing strictly partisan coverage in the last 10 days before the election. This effort to sway the vote should become an issue that concerns all voters. Fair and nonpartisan reporting has fallen by the wayside. It's time to reconsider who is allowed to own television stations and how many. Whether you are a Democrat or a Republican, it's offensive for a corporation with that much impact to be able to create news to suit its bias.
Great band
THANK YOU so much for printing the article about the band Fusion Blue. I really like the music, and the band members all have great stage presence. Having a successful band come out of Southeast Missouri is a great accomplishment and tribute to us all.
