My kind of town
CAPE GIRARDEAU is a classy town, and I'll bet a lot of the money made in the Cape area stays in the Cape area. I know we spend our money at the nice restaurants in the area. We spend our money at the shopping mall, certainly at the big anchor stores. We spend our money at Wal-Mart, Target, and at the movie theaters, etc. It's a great town, Cape is. I think the idea for a floating restaurant is a great idea. Cincinnati's one of those cities that has many floating restaurants yet not one casino. I think a city can operate without having gambling.
FOR THE person berating the smokers of Jackson: I haven't noticed the cigarette butts on the street or the cigarette packs, but of course I guess you'd have to be walking. What I have noticed that appears to be litter is the yard sale signs opposite the post office. Now that is true litter. One day I chuckled as I watched a woman standing beside the signs writing down all the yard sales.
I'M JUST calling in regard to the article in the paper about the Cape officials establishing a task force about the burning of leaves. I can't believe the city council is even considering wasting taxpayers' money and time for this. There are a lot of other important issues. If they take away burning of leaves, I hope the city's going to be out here every week picking up the leaves that people put by the curb. Just establishing a task force based on one person's request is a little ridiculous.
CAREER FAIR? Please. I don't think that being a single parent with two kids in college and then with myself having a college education, working for Pampered Chef, Avon or Premiere Jewelry, or, God forbid, McDonalds, would possibly pay my bills. Maybe if I was on welfare, yeah. Hello, Cape, bring in some jobs. No, we're not talking about restaurants where we can make a little bit above minimum wage. We just can't seem to bring in any jobs that furnish an income on which somebody can actually live. Let's talk about technology.
I WENT to pick up my daughter at one of the secondary schools at Jackson. It is the middle of October, it was maybe 70 degrees outside. I walked in the building and it was so cold in there that I don't know how anybody could stand it. I asked the secretary if it's always that cold. She laughed and said, "Oh yeah, the air conditioner runs all day long." I asked her why they were running air conditioners while teachers have their windows open. She said the teachers were trying to bring in some warm air.
HANG IN there, Rush Limbaugh, and keep giving those radical liberals the devil. It takes Rush to courageously and adamantly set the conservatives' record straight to the core for all us loyal, traditional, God-believing lovers of our country and the Constitution and Declaration of Independence. Conservatives are just the opposite of radical liberals who believe anything goes, the sky's the limit, if it feels good do it, and no accountability for their immoral actions. What a pitiful mess they are for America.
WHILE GOING to the bank this morning at 10 a.m., I witnessed a fire truck coming from the Osage Centre. The way gasoline prices are, this is a waste of taxpayer money so they can work out during their work day. I wish we could pay our firefighters for the actual hours they work and not their workout.
I LIVE on County Road 301 in Jackson. I just wanted to call and tell Ron, who works for the county department, that he did a really nice job mowing and I sure appreciate it.
I WANT to give my opinion on this inmate wanting an abortion. She's killing a human life, life that has got a heartbeat and a brain right now. I can't see that when she's in prison, why she can't keep it and give it up for adoption. There's a lot of people out here in the world that can't even have kids that would love to have kids instead of getting an abortion. It is really terrible that she wants an abortion.
I THINK the streets just look awful when companies have been laying asphalt and all of their trucks drive out, back out, go back and forth and back and forth out on an adjoining concrete street. It just makes it look absolutely tacky. A case in point is on Independence coming across from First Missouri State Bank, the mayor's bank of all things. I just think it looks awful, and they shouldn't be allowed to do it.
