Our government keeps raising the debt ceiling so the politicians can spend more and more of our tax dollars. I would like to see the debt ceiling lowered for the sake of the future generations. My debt ceiling was maximum in 1972 when we bought our house. When we got married in 1965 we decided to save enough money so we could pay 50 percent down. In 1987 we made our last payment. After 1987 my debt ceiling was zero and we managed to save a little. Conservatism works...

Shutdown strategy

It is very plain to all of us out here who are capable of independent thought that Obama and his socialist cohorts really wanted this shutdown. The call went out, "Do what I say or else. Make this shutdown as painful as possible." They assured millions of government dependents and low-information voters, which after all is where the Democrats get their votes, that they could blame the Republicans. I'm 83 years old, and I can't recall a more stonewalling president up to this one. It's plain that the shutdown belongs to Obama and Harry Reid.
