I gave two years of my life during the Korean Conflict and used my Paper Service Card for veterans' discounts for years. Now, stores want photo I.D. cards. While in Poplar Bluff recently, I went to the V.A. hospital to get a card. They won't give me one unless I join all their programs. I don't want or need any of the V.A. services. I thought they were to help us veterans. Bah-humbug. Kick them all out. Now where do I go to get something?
Yes, this is in response to "Go, Tigers." I agree with what the person in "Go, Tigers" said. Nathan Norman, you have a good team. You are obviously a good coach. Al Young and Peyton Montgomery are your two best players. And I just want to say that I'm proud to be a Tiger. And I'm proud that I went to school there. And I'll tell anybody that I'm proud that went to school there.
Hello autumn: The crispness of your morning air is refreshing. A nice change from summer's heat and muggyness. The change of the seasons is one of the great reasons to live here. Thank you, God, for blessing us.
I would like to see the Today's Deals start again. That is a great idea and lots of savings.
What's the most ridiculous thing about the proposed amendment that would strip teachers of tenure is the fact that the only people it will really affect are the good teachers -- the teachers who are committed to doing a great job and who love what they do. The people who should be let go won't be affected, and they will go on doing a mediocre job at best. I'm talking about the large number of coaches who are horrible teachers, whose bosses know they are doing a horrible job, and who keep their job anyway. Not all coaches fit the bill, but many do.
As a proud citizen of Cape Girardeau, of course I support the extension of the fire tax. Our Cape Fire Department does far more for the community than simply responding to fires. They also serve as a first responder of rescue, car wrecks, water accidents, building collapse, medical emergencies, injuries and hazardous material disasters. This is not a new tax and is not an additional tax. It is only a continuation of the tax that was passed 10 years ago by a 82 percent margin. I want our city to be safe and be a great place to raise a family.
