HERE'S one thing the people in Fruitland can do to prevent the rock quarry. Write your state and U.S. political officials and complain. The more you write or complain, it will slow it down or stop it. I don't think it's needed because of the children in that school next door to it. There are plenty of areas for Mr. Strack to build a rock quarry besides next to a high school.
CONGRATULATIONS to coach Tony Samuel and his staff on the great season thus far. If people will continue to support him and his staff, he will get the program where we all want it to be for Southeast Missouri State University.
FOR the normal child, I don't think the school year needs to be longer. Children already get senioritis. By the time children get to their senior year, they're not all that interested in school anyway and the intelligent ones are already planning to go on to college. Summer vacation is a good time to teach your children swimming lessons, it gives you time with your child.
AS a parent of a student at Southeast Missouri State University who attended the family weekend festivities, I want to say thank you to all those involved for a job well done. My family and I had a very enjoyable afternoon spending time with our family, playing games, having free kettle corn and popcorn and cotton candy and enjoying bingo and trivia. It was a very nice event. The building looked very festive and it was just a great time for all.
I live outside of Cape Girardeau and won't be allowed to vote on it, but my late husband and I used to do some traveling and we did stop in casinos. However, we did it sensibly. As for all the vices, there's plenty of them already in Cape Girardeau. I can't see where the casino is going to make it that much worse.
MICHAEL Jensen's article on parental involvement in education was great. There couldn't be a more accurate or truthful statement issued than what he said. Until parents become involved in their children's education, our educational system is not going to improve. Teachers can't do it by themselves.
I am offended that President Obama called people like me irresponsible for complaining about the economy. He's had two years in office to do something about the economy. I think maybe he's the one who needs to step up to the plate and say he's the one who made the mistake. I will be voting on Nov. 2, and I'm not a Democrat or Republican, I'm for the best person for the job.
THANK you, Michael Jensen. Your article on parental reform hit it right on the mark. The last two paragraphs said it all.
