THE Scott City School Board passed a school uniform requirement to begin next school year. Where is the debate over uniforms in the news? I am OK with the uniforms as long as all teachers and staff have to abide by this code as well.
WHEN I was a young man growing up in the 1940s, pretty well everyone stepped into the gutter on occasion. Most people, however, found being in the gutter was not to their liking and got out of it as fast as they could. Today, however, it seems most people deliberately step into the gutter and relish life there.
I keep hearing about the greed on Wall Street, and those discussing it seem to suggest that greed is limited to Wall Street. I doubt that there is any more greed to be found on Wall Street than can be found right here in Cape Girardeau. The only difference I would expect to discover is the amount of money involved.
I don't like the service of the post office. They lost a package that was sent to me.
TO all the business owners open later than 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve, shame on you. Think of your employees. If you are that greedy, then you should be the ones who stay and work.
Tax cuts
THE liberals in this country finally have admitted by continuing the Bush tax cuts that lower taxes for the workers in America is what spurs an economy. The average American worker knows better how to spend his or her money than the government.
Big tobacco
WHEN you hear the words "big tobacco" you are supposed to think of some awful CEO sitting in a corner counting his money. "Big tobacco" is actually millions of people just like you and me who go to work every day and earn a living making a legal product. They buy groceries, cars, furniture and all the rest of the things that keep this economy going.
Smoke-free choices
IF there are 50 restaurants in Cape Girardeau that are smoke-free, as well as smoke-free stores, office buildings, medical buildings, hospitals and fitness centers, what is the problem? If you don't want to work in a place that allows smoking, don't apply. You have plenty of choices.
Utility charges
Why do we have a municipal charge from Cape Girardeau for utilities? Cape Girardeau should be paying me for living here.
Decorations
SOUTHEAST Hospital, congratulations and kudos. You remembered that it was Christ's birthday with your Nativity scene in front of the hospital, not Frosty the Snowman or Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Good job.
Great services
I want to thank the city of Jackson for all their services this past year and wish you guys and girls a merry Christmas and a happy new year. God bless each and everyone of you and yours.
