Reflective striping

I TOO have noticed in traveling from state to state that there is a difference in highway striping. If there is something Missouri can get that would give better reflection at night and during rain, it would cut down on accidents. I know it exists, because I have seen it on other highways but not in Missouri.

Thanks for license

I WANT to thank the person who found my driver's license and other important cards and pictures at Aldi's and turned them in. Thank you, and may God bless you.

Needed frequencies

FOR THOSE who are complaining about the change to digital TV signals, the reason isn't because of government intrusion. The reason is because there is not enough radio signal bands remaining for all the radio frequencies are that are required for emergency responders. The changeover is due to a homeland security requirement to open more band width for emergency services -- law enforcement, fire service and emergency medical service -- in case we have a national disaster or homeland security problem. Right now there aren't enough frequencies for everyone to communicate with each other, and going digital opens up more frequencies.

Highway trash

I WANT to thank the people who were kind enough to pick up trash out on Highway 177. The neighborhood certainly appreciated it. If the trash company would cover its trash trucks or use some of its employees to pick up trash, other people wouldn't have to do it.

Federal prosecutions

THE FEDERAL government is at it again. They've got another desperado, Olympic gold medal winner Marion Jones. I will sleep better knowing she will be in jail and not a threat to the public. The feds just don't get it. We don't want our taxes used on these ridiculous prosecutions.

Thanks for lights

WHOEVER SAID he didn't like the stop lights that were put up at Bloomfield Road and Silver Springs Road during the holiday season obviously doesn't live near that intersection like we do. It was wonderful for those of us who live on Bloomfield Road. Compared to other years when the traffic was backed up and we couldn't get to our driveways, this year was the best ever. To those responsible for the temporary lights: We say thank you, and please do the same next year if there aren't permanent lights by then.

Energy and cars

I BELIEVE it's too late for us to realize that ethanol is not all it's cracked up to be. Look at how the prices of everything have gone up. What we need are more energy-efficient cars and electric cars. We've got to do something before it's too late.

Too fat to give

I STOPPED giving blood because a Red Cross worker said I "crashed the cart," referring to my obesity. I had never been so insulted. I refuse to give blood until the anti-fat bigotry goes away.

No limit on tickets

I WOULD like to confirm that police officers don't have quotas. They can write as many tickets as they want.

Paying teachers

ROD JETTON wants to give teachers a big pay raise. When are we going to get somebody responsible enough to tell the teachers if they don't like the pay to find another job? That's what everybody else in the workplace is told. Teachers are making more money now than half the people in Cape Girardeau County. Will legislators raise our taxes to pay for the increases in teachers' salaries? You can bet on that.
