Quarry jobs

IN October 2010, the Southeast Missourian interviewed one of the partners of the Heartland quarry. In that interview, Mr. Dumey stated that they would hire about 50 employees for the first year, but after the quarry was up and running there would only be eight to 10 full-time employees. It seems to me there will be a lot of personal property destruction, noise, dust and road damage because of truck traffic. Eighty to 120 trucks a day for only producing eight to 10 full-time jobs. Vote no Feb. 7.

Smoking, red lights

WE have dined at several restaurants in Cape Girardeau, and I have never been to one that the smoke has bothered me. We have even sat in the smoking section if we went to a restaurant that was really busy so we could get faster service. However, we have not been to the bars, as we don't drink. I was a smoker for several years before I quit. I can smell it if I walk up to someone that is smoking. I am more concerned with the people that run the red lights. They are putting their lives on the line as well as others' lives.

ATV accident

THERE was another death due to an ATV accident. When are these people going to wake up? If they don't care about their own lives, they need to think about their loved ones. Do these people have any idea how fast a hospital stay and permanent brain damage can wipe out a family's entire savings? If you have to play, do it safely.

Low-flying helicopters

WE live in a highly populated area on Greensferry Road and there have been very low-flying helicopters recently, so low that it rattles my glass and my windows and my glasses in my cabinets. I hope these are trained pilots and they know what they are doing.
