WIDEN Bloomfield Road? This can't be the mindset of the people of Cape Girardeau County. This rural, scenic road is one of the few left. It is a leisurely drive. If you are in that much of a hurry, take another route.
LORIMIER school is now city hall on Independence Street. May Greene school was sold. Old Jefferson school was sold and stands in ruins with a hole in the roof. The newer Jefferson school still stands, but for how long? The old Central High-Central Junior High-Schultz school was turned into a beautiful senior citizens apartment building on Pacific Street. Central High School on Caruthers Avenue was turned into the junior high. The junior high was turned into middle school. The new Central High School was built in the boonies. The district ran out of money and made it too small. Now the district says Franklin school, a beautiful building, needs to be replaced. How long would the new building stand? Washington school bit the dust. It was a beautiful building and bomb shelter, replaced by Blanchard Elementary School, a tin building. Where is the money coming from?
THANKS to the fine folks at AmerenUE for the quick service repair Saturday night. It had to be brutal working outside.
MANY disruptive students are gifted students who are bored with the classroom because they aren't challenged. Perhaps the disruptive fifth-grader mentioned in a recent comment is a frustrated future Albert Einstein.
I fight for my country as well. I will fight for your right to party. However, I draw the line at fighting for your right to smoke.
IN fairness, many people carefully prepared for their retirement by investing in 401(k) accounts and have seen their value drop by almost half during the Great Recession. Should these people be punished for the financial shenanigans of the Wall Street financiers who were too smart by half in their ongoing investments in fancy financial instruments no one understood and whose collapse helped trigger hard times?
SOME would say improving a school's dropout rate while providing a more rigorous education and holding students accountable for their achievement or lack thereof are mutually exclusive propositions.
CONCERNING the fate of Franklin Elementary School: I feel it would be a shame to destroy a beautiful, historical building. We need to preserve Cape Girardeau's history.
PIT bulls are a nuisance. Our lawmakers need to outlaw pit bulls, because they cause more harm than good. If you want a pet, get one that's not as violent as a pit bull.
REGARDING the Wall Street people who are going to get big bonuses. If something comes up this year and they need a bailout again, I'd let them fall flat on their faces. They can learn to live, like everyone else, on the bare necessities.
