TO THE lowlife who ran over my kitten and kept going in Scott City, I have children who had a pet. You could have at least stopped and said I'm sorry. What goes around does come around.

What a hypocrite

I JUST heard a young gentleman on the 5 p.m. news state that, due to his religious beliefs, he could not go to war for the country. My feeling on that is, then he needs to leave our country. What a hypocrite to allow others to shed blood for his freedom. If he can't fight for this country, then he needs to find another homeland.

Being naive

I ONLY have a high school education, and it amazes me how naive some college educated individuals can be. First, it is not like Dr. Steska cares about our school. He is not quitting to go to a better job, he is only thinking of himself, and it was not him that got the taxes voted in, it was the public. We are getting smarter and tired of the waste. You have a principal in every school, so why do we need upper management?

Start older

IF THEY are going to start a military draft for the young boys, they say it will be those from 20 to 25. I think they should start with the 25-year-olds and work their way down to the 20-year-olds because the 20-year-old has not had enough worldly experience and doesn't even know how to hold a gun.

No retaliation

ABOUT THE situation going on, I don't understand how you can talk about retaliation, because in this country, we forgive and forget.

Buy a bond

JFK SAID, "Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country." I heard a congressman say on TV we could all buy a war bond. I remember in World War II, I bought war bonds. If we can we should all help our country in this time of need.

Flattering America

IN THIS time, as we are called the ugly, mean Americans, we should remember those famous words, "No matter what other nations may say about the United States, immigration is still the sincerest form of flattery." Our problem is making room as more and more people want to live here, not leave here.

Make some noise

CONCERNING THE person complaining about the noise from the SEMO District Fair, this fair has been around a long time. Longer than my life and I'm sure longer than yours. When you moved into that area, you knew the SEMO District Fair would be going on there every year. So why should we be quiet the one week out of the year that our children get to go have fun, be a little loud, a little rowdy and just be kids? I know my kids enjoyed it, when I was a child I enjoyed it, and chances are, when you were a child, you enjoyed it. If you have a problem with it now, maybe you should move.

Love that band

PINCH ME, see if I'm alive. The SEMO District Fair had Trick Pony on the Main stage. I love it. Good work, fair board, and bring back some more entertainment like them. Better yet, bring them back.

No visitors

I THINK it's pretty sad when the Caring Communities group at Blanchard Elementary School invites all of the school board office and their employees to the monthly breakfast club and there is only one attendee from our board office. Is our superintendent the only one who cares about the children in our school district? These children need somebody to talk to about all the problems that are going on. Thank you, Dr. Steska, for attending this breakfast club.

Real Americans

YOU COULD tell who the real Americans were Sept. 11 by New Yorkers rushing to ground zero doing whatever they could to help. Meanwhile, Southeast Missourians ran to the gas station to make sure they got theirs.

Beautiful flag

I JUST want to say how proud I am to have a company like Penzel Construction in our area. The flag they raised in Jackson is beautiful.

Can't believe it

I AM a citizen of Jackson, and I can't believe that all the high school football games were played and the NFL and baseball teams canceled their games. If high school football is more important than this country, I just cannot believe it.

It's ridiculous

IT AMAZES me sometimes just how ridiculous things are. Terrorists have killed innocent human beings on American soil, and some people are concerned that their civil rights are going to be violated by the United States government. Terrorists are still believed to be living in the United States, and the Justice Department wants the law eased so they can better apprehend them. The United States government has a right and duty to protect American citizens and our borders. I'm so tired of this political correctness mantra I could scream. If the laws hadn't been made so lax by the special-interest groups in this country, Tuesday, Sept. 11 probably would not have happened.

Not fair

IT MAY be true that the fuel suppliers were going to raise their prices in anticipation of something worse than what happened. But why is it fair to raise the prices on something you already have in stock? Most fuel stations I visit say that the price changes only when they get a new shipment in.
