Valid theories
I AM absolutely floored. My son, a first-grader at South Elementary School, told me that Christians were wrong and dinosaurs lived before humans. He said his teacher told him that. Evolution is only a theory, not fact, and under no circumstances should a teacher be telling a student that creationism is wrong. It is also a valid theory.
Help from strangers
I WOULD like to say thank you to all the nice people who helped me last Sunday night in Scott City. It is a great feeling knowing there are people who will help a complete stranger in need. From the man who let me into his house to the man who stopped to check on me and even to the nice woman who gave me her shoes, a sincere thank you to all. Your help was, and still is, greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Keep up the good work
I READ with interest the comment calling Jo Ann Emerson and Kit Bond "out of control" on spending. Both Emerson and Bond have been rated as two of the most conservative members of Congress. However, the money they bring to Southeast Missouri is money that would have been spent elsewhere if they hadn't. I'm tired of seeing my tax dollars go to St. Louis and Kansas City. It's nice to see money spent here on things like the new bridge or construction on I-55. Emerson's help with ports gets our farmers' grain overseas. Bond's help with the crime lab makes me and my family safer. So I say keep up the good work.
Making it go away
WHAT AN imaginative idea from state Rep. Jason Crowell: Remove people from the Medicaid rolls and, poof, the problem disappears.
Terrible lyrics
I FOLLOWED Mark Green's advice on the Class of 2morrow page and focused on the lyrics in some of the songs I listen to. He's right. It did cause me to think. And one of the things I realized is that I need to find some better music. These lyrics are terrible.
Post those signs
IT'S INTERESTING that the only people who can't be sued for problems created by the conceal-carry law are those who are responsible for issuing the permits. All private citizens need to post signs prohibiting concealed weapons on their property if they don't wish to be held liable for the acts of gun-toting morons who accidentally discharge their weapons.
Working hard
BOB CHUBBS of Jackson High School does an excellent job with the drama and speech department. He and his family devote a lot of time to the students and their activities. Not only did they have a fall musical and spring drama fest, they also compete almost the entire school year at speech competitions. I did not appreciate the comment that indicated Jackson drama was in a downward spiral. These students and Chubbs work hard all year and are excelling in all areas, in my opinion.
