Scott City speeding
I'D LIKE to make a comment about the Scott City interchange. There is a need for another way out of town. The port road was a big help, but I hope people on James Street don't get their hopes up that the Scott City police will control the speeding. That won't happen. Ask the people on Ruth Street.
What's the big deal?
WANT to comment about the Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson thing. Everybody is taking this way out of context. Come on. It's 2004. It's not 1950. People need to get over it. I can't believe everybody's making a big deal about it. It's unreal.
Now it's news
IF THE Super Bowl halftime problem is all that bad, why is it TV stations keep showing it every time the news comes on?
Coroner's other job
IF THE coroner's job is so demanding, how can he do his job at the university? If he gets called away from the university to be the coroner, does he still get paid from the university?
Two full-time jobs
I READ with great interest the article about Cape Girardeau County Coroner Mike Hurst. He says he works full time at the university and 50 to 60 hours a week as the coroner. How can anyone hold down two full-time jobs and draw two full-time paychecks from the taxpayers of the county and the state?
Threat of weapons
SADDAM HUSSEIN'S sons-in-law revealed hidden warfare and prohibited programs in Iraq when they defected from Iraq in the mid-1990s. They were killed when they returned to Iraq under the promise of immunity. The world has known for some years what weapons Hussein was hiding. Not the United Nations nor any other organization got him stopped until President Bush put an end to him. It's so true what the president said: If we wait for threats to fully materialize, we will have waited too long.
Thanks for street lights
I'D LIKE to say a big thank you to whoever fixed the street lights along Bend Road. It was much appreciated.
Thanks to street crews
AFTER THREE inches of snow, the Jackson snowplow operators were out at 4 o'clock in the morning clearing the streets off. We just want you guys to know how much we appreciate you. Thank you.
Planned publicity
THIS IS about the so-called "costume malfunction" during the Super Bowl halftime. If Justin Timberlake doesn't need this publicity, then he should not have created it. It's all of his and Janet Jackson's doing. It was all planned by them. It seems anything the Jacksons pull off is supposed to be OK, whether it's decent or not. Good morals are not in their language book.
Scott City too
I WISH Scott City would fall in line with Cape Girardeau and Jackson regarding the banning of bottle rockets. I have to clean them from my roof and yard every year. Come on, Scott City, get in line.
Buy American
REMEMBER TO buy American. The job you save may be your own. And help your friend keep his job.
Defending morality
MY COMPLIMENTS to Joe Sullivan for his column in the Missourian "Whither morality?" I would have to say what we saw during the Super Bowl is a reflection of the decadent morality that exists in America. Morality as we used to know it commenced to decline four decades ago and is continuing that decline at exponential rates. I hope we can have enough Joe Sullivans to speak out and reverse this trend. Thanks again for a good column.
Unfair fees
YOU SHOULDN'T have to pay to play sports, because then only the well-off will be able to do it. What if the low-income family has a kid that's just old enough to baby-sit brothers and sisters while the parent works? This is the way the kid helps the family. There is no time for a part-time job. What if this kid lives out in the country?
