To the editor:

Graffiti in Cape Girardeau as well as any other community is an increasing problem since it is very hard to determine who the guilty parties are and thus very hard to prosecute. However, some assumptions can be made in trying to find and identify these people. They are probably never alone when the act is committed since they may be trying to impress someone. They may even boast of their accomplishments, especially when their work makes the news. And, judging from some of their language, they are probably uninformed lowlife who associate with other untrustworthy types of people.

This can be key to their identification and eventual prosecution. If local civic organizations would have a standing reward for anonymous information leading to the arrest and conviction, the graffiti artist would probably think twice about getting out his spray can, because he would have to wonder if his friends could be bought with a $500 or $1,000 reward.

This way justice could be served, and the guilty party would never know which of his friends collected the reward.
