For the seventh year, Indian Park in Cape Girardeau, at the corner of William and Lorimier streets, will be hopping with basketball excitement today and Sunday during the annual Slamfest tournament. This event brings out some of the best basketball talent around here for two full days of full-court competition.
In addition to the tournament featuring teams from Southern Illinois, Southeast Missouri and the St. Louis area, there will be plenty of other activities, including a slam-dunk contest.
Slamfest is a fund raiser for the House of Prayer Educational Youth Domestic Center only a few blocks away near Independence and Sprigg streets. This is an outreach of the House of Prayer church, which has purchased a building and is in the process of converting it into a youth center.
For basketball excitement, plan to drop by Indian Park this weekend and see the action.
