In this age of air conditioning, malls with multiple movie screens, TV videos and electronic games, it is a wonder that anyone will venture out of doors in August's heat and humidity for an evening of thrills and spills. But for the 47th year, the Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo in Sikeston is attracting its usual crowds.
The rodeo started Wednesday night and continues through Saturday.
Nearly 350 performers are on tap for the four nights of rodeo competition and entertainment. The Sikeston rodeo is consistently regarded as one of the top such events in the nation.
It's nice to know there is still one major event each year in Southeast Missouri that hasn't changed a whole lot in the last half-century. For an evening of fun and excitement, it would be hard to beat a visit to the rodeo.
So load up the family and head to Sikeston. There's bound to be something at the rodeo that everyone will enjoy. When it comes to entertainment, there are few opportunities to bring the whole family together. Don't miss this one.
