Once again, this area has shown its generosity by pledging $500,070 to the Muscular Dystrophy Association during the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon on Labor Day. The funds support the MDA, which promotes research seeking cures for 40 neuromuscular diseases and provides assistance to individuals who have those diseases.

And, as usual, many volunteers joined the regular crew from KFVS12 to call attention to the needs of the MDA during Monday's telethon.

Hundreds more participated in the special events at West Park Mall in Cape Girardeau, where this area's telethon was based.

Now comes the most important part of the annual fund-raising drive: writing your check. Thousands of dollars in contributions were turned in during the telethon, but thousands more were pledged by those who were touched by the appeals made during the daylong television broadcast.

If you made a pledge to help MDA during the telethon, please make sure you send in your contribution. The efforts to improve the lives of thousands of our family members, friends and neighbors depend on the commitment you made during the telethon.

And thank you, again, for caring enough to share a bit of what you have with the MDA so it can continue to provide its needed and welcome services. Thanks to your generosity, someone's life is going to be easier.
