Missouri is blessed with many scenic highways and byways. The state's Department of Transportation wants to mark these routes as a way to promote increased travel and tourism.
It is likely that several of this region's historic landmarks and routes featuring the state's natural beauty will be included in this program.
Routes approved will be marked with special signs and promoted by the state as tourist attractions. It will also allow designation in national travel guides issued by American Association of Retires Persons and AAA.
Most people are interested in the fastest way to get from Point A to Point B. But for those on vacation or others wishing a few moments of quiet contemplation, a scenic Southeast Missouri roadway would certainly have much to offer.
