Saxony opens doors

Congratulations to the students, parents, faculty, administration and supporters at Saxony Lutheran High School, which opened the doors of its new building to students for the first time last week.

The school near Fruitland is home to 86 students with the capacity to house 175.

The 42,000-square-foot building on 42 acres of land includes a gym with seating for 1,000, a library, a computer lab, a chapel/cafeteria, music and health rooms, a science lab and an art room that will include a kiln.

The current building represents only the first phase of the school's construction plan. Additions await enrollment expansions. Just in the last year, enrollment increased to the current number from 58 students.

The school is the fruition of a dream that started in 2000 with classes held at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau. The school is funded by 22 Lutheran churches in the region.

Donations to the school's Christ the Cornerstone building fund paid the entire cost of $4.5 million edifice, excluding the real estate purchased.

That in itself is a dream come true.
