To the editor: While in your fair city I picked up a brochure about Rush Limbaugh published by your Convention and Visitors Bureau. I am not sure who pays for it. Considering Limbaugh's political agenda, I would assume it is not paid for with tax dollars.
The brochure says a hometown driving tour is offered. After the comments Limbaugh made in regard to Michael J. Fox, I won't be taking that tour.
While I do not agree with stem-cell research, I greatly admire Fox. What incredible courage it took to appear in public with such a horrible movement disorder. His passion for this cause is admirable. If a cure is found for Parkinson's disease, it will be too late to help him. There is nothing self-serving about what this fine man is doing.
Limbaugh's scurrilous comments were so very cruel. They were an affront to all Parkinson's patients and their families. I have treated many Parkinson's patients.
It is a devastating disease frequently accompanied by dementia and depression.
It baffles me that people continued to listen to Limbaugh after the prescription-drug abuse. He was maligning drug users while he was doing the same thing.
I do not pretend to know about sentencing guidelines, but I suspect that most criminals with similar charges would have been treated much more harshly.
I would hope that conscientious people would abandon Limbaugh's show. In regard to Cape Girardeau, he has not brought honor to the city. I suspect the majority of Cape residents would agree with me.
