There's bareback riding, bull riding, tie-down roping, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, team roping and barrel racing. And that's just the first half of the night at the Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo.
This year marks the 60th anniversary for Sikeston's rodeo, a premier event that draws thousands of fans to the area.
Scheduled for Aug. 8 through 11, organizers recently announced the musical acts scheduled to take the rodeo stage. Once again the Sikeston Jaycees didn't disappoint. The Band Perry will kickoff opening night, followed by performances from Jerrod Niemann on Aug. 9, Easton Corbin on Aug. 10 and Justin Moore on Aug. 11.
Organizers are planning a number of special festivities to coincide with this year's milestone anniversary, including the release of a hard-bound book commemorating 60 years of rodeo fun.
Sikeston always does a great job of getting the community involved with the rodeo, and fans of the rodeo and musical acts alike have shown their appreciation with strong attendance figures every year. We expect that tradition will continue this year.
Congratulations to Sikeston and the Jaycees on the rodeo's 60th anniversary. We look forward to celebrating this special anniversary with you at the rodeo grounds in August.
