With your help, the Cape River Heritage Museum continues to be a lively place.
In the past few months we've celebrated the 90th anniversary of women's right to vote, held receptions for local authors and welcomed more than 200 visitors on a single day during the Fourth of July.
Our quilt exhibit showcases pre-Civil War items along with the work of present-day artisans. Volunteers are working very hard to catalog and reorganize the collections. The gift shop and Curiosity Shop are well stocked with attractive and unusual items.
Our writers group is about to launch Heartland Heritage, an annual anthology that will feature essays and poetry with a connection to the history, life and culture of our region. Ten writers have contributed to the anthology, which includes an essay by Jean Bell Mosley. Many of these writers will be on hand at a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 3. You are invited to all the museum's events, including book signings, Saturday morning discussions on Cherokee life, a film series and other family-centered activities.
Watch the Southeast Missourian for up-to-date information. When you join or renew your membership, you will receive postcards and special invitations to members-only events. We appreciate all our members, and we hope that you will continue to support the museum. Please attend the reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday for Tom Neumeyer's "Then and Now," a pictorial book of the history of Cape Girardeau.
