Remember those who need help

To the editor:

I think of the problems facing children, seniors and the disabled and wonder where it all started. I remember the love-ins of the 1960s and the anti-war demonstrations. So I wonder what happened. I guess we sold out to the almighty dollar.

I remember going to church and learning about the scribes and the Pharisees when I was a child. And I remember the lame man who was forced to beg for food, and how we said that children in the United States would never go hungry again. Then I wonder how many children in Cape Girardeau go to bed hungry. Maybe if the poor and disabled would sit outside the modern-day churches and ask for alms we would remember. But then would we?

Even governors sometimes do things they know are wrong. Remember Pontius Pilate? So I wonder if Gov. Matt Blunt is just doing what the modern-day scribes and Pharisees want, or are we just screaming "Crucify them. No medical care for the children or disabled. Crucify them"?

As one who is disabled, in the name of God I beg you to remember.
