Every year for the past 29, Southeast Missouri State University has invited high schools in the region to enter the best artwork by their juniors and seniors in an exhibit at the University Museum. This year more than 500 entries were received from 25 high schools in Southeast Missouri and Southern Illinois.

Juror Dr. Samuel Bishop chose 73 pieces for the exhibition. Even those students who didn't win prizes received the recognition that their work was good enough to qualify for the show.

Bishop judged Central High School senior Trevor Camp's stone sculpture best of show, which won Camp a $1,500 scholarship from the university. The merit award went to the fiber art created by Central High School senior Ashley Smith, who received a $1,000 scholarship to the university.

Dr. Edwin Smith, who retired from the art department at Southeast last year, created the High School Art Symposium. The event continues to inspire and recognize young artists.

The art will remain on display at the museum until Feb. 18.
