Quick response keeps vets cool

To the editor:Early in the afternoon of a hot, humid June 1, a major power failure cut off all electricity to the Missouri Veterans Home near Center Junction in Cape Girardeau. Though we have emergency power generators, the motor on one of these overloaded, further limiting our power supply. A lengthy power failure can be a matter of life and death for many residents in our facility.

Quick action by our maintenance staff and the quick response of Dutch Electric and Langford Mechanical and Sheet Metal kept emergency power at adequate levels.

A large, portable emergency generator was already on order from St. Louis but would not arrive from St. Louis for several hours. Readers should know that the veterans home is in line to get a permanent emergency generator capable of meeting the needs of the facility.
