We hope you read the story in Sunday's Southeast Missourian about the Pursley family. The story, written by reporter Tyler Graef, is an inspiring look at a family who has faced challenges but persevered and shared lessons learned.
Sheree and Dr. Greg Pursley of Jackson are parents to two children, Evee-Kay and Izaac.
Izaac, 6, is the younger of the two. He has a form of dwarfism. This required a tracheotomy before he turned 1, and he has a ventilator to help provide oxygen when he sleeps at night.
Make no mistake, this family faces challenges. Still, Izaac keeps a great attitude. He's a happy child. His parents are devoted to each other.
Greg Pursley wrote about the family's story in a new book.
"I feel like we have a compelling story," Greg Pursley told the Southeast Missourian. "Not just because of Izaac's condition, but because 85 percent of all marriages that have a special-needs child end in divorce, but somehow we were able to grow closer together instead of tearing each other apart."
Pursley said the relationship with his wife comes down to four principles: faith, selflessness, communication and trust.
These are areas that all couples should have in their marriage. While not everyone faces the same type of challenge, all marriages demand commitment.
We applaud the Pursley family and others whose faith, commitment and love provide a foundation in life.
