Dear Editor:
This is in response to the letter written by Paula E. Kimpe (July 27), stating that the government's intervention in our lives is purely for our safety.
Poppycock!
What the government is really doing is interfering in our personal decisions by trying to decide what is best for us, rather than letting us decide for ourselves. In doing so, they have gained a power over us that will be nearly impossible to get out from under.
They are constantly legislating rather than educating.
The biggest problem is that we continue to keep these people in office. Maybe we should stand together and vote to "re-elect nobody."
As far as the helmet issue is concerned, I am for free choice. As far as mo-peds, a mo-ped is a two-wheel vehicle with a motor AND pedals. A motor scooter, I believe, is not to be considered a mo-ped and should be under the same regulations as a motorcycle. As far as an added tax, if you will check it out, you will find that more motorcyclists are likely to be insured than automobile owners.
By the way, I never get on my motorcycle without my helmet. But I don't need a policeman telling me what I have to do.
